Balmy old summers night. Posh carne Asada huaraches Spotted a cotes de boeuf at the local farmers market today which worked just fine. Cooked in the pit over applewood logs. Washed down with a lovely bottle of 2010 Kutch McDougall Pinot Noir which was drinking beautifully. Life is good! 🔥

Balmy summers night in London, time to fire the pit! Picked up a cote de boeuf (and chicken) from the local farmers market and made it carne Asada style into Burrito Gringo’s. Home made flour Tortillas and guacamole then topped it off (keeping the French side of it) with a lovely bottle of 2000 Beaucastel from . It is drinking so well at the moment. Smashed it.

Thanksgiving lunch of sorts in Chelsea. No turkey but a delicious USDA Chateaubriand, which did the trick! Washed down with Marcassin Three Sisters Chardonnay 2010, Martha’s 1984 and the rare Lake Vineyard 1996. Great food, service and wine. All in all a great way to lunch on Thanksgiving.

Now this was a fun pair of wines over dinner the other night . 1996 herb lamb with plenty of life left. It was so good, too bad it was my last bottle. Double decanted 2 hours previously, still needing a decanter over dinner. 1993 Howell mountain was just as good. Typically old Dunn wines take for ever to come around but with 3 hours of air it was singing. Love this era of Napa wines. Reasonable alcohol levels, rustic notes, making the wines fun as they breath, open up, twisting and turning on the nose and palate over the night. Too much chasing perfect wines these days. Leads to lots of alcohol seamless wines with no quirkiness. Is that what we really want?

Another new release offered today which caught my eye is the 2018 Sena.

This project, created in 1995 by Eduardo Chadwick and Robert Mondavi has been going from strength to strength in the very capable hands of winemaker Francisco Baettig. They created a Bordeaux-inspired blend that showcases Chile’s potential to compete at the top-level.

Earlier this week we see the release of the 20th-anniversary special bottling of the 100-point 2017 Clos Apalta.

Clos Apalta was founded in 1994 by the Bournet-Lapostolle family who remain in charge of the estate today. They farm some of the world’s oldest ungrafted vines which they use to create a Bordeaux-style wine based on the Carmenere grape.

The 2017 vintage saw a hot summer followed by a cooler March just as the grapes were coming to full ripeness. That meant ripe tannins, an intensity of flavour with real aromatic freshness and finesse. The resulting wines were the perfect 100 point Clos Apalta and a great value 96 point Le Petit Clos.

With this in mind, I am delighted to offer the following, with reviews by James Suckling.
