Aquarius Golf Club

Aquarius Golf Club The 9 hole members' course where Henry Cotton started his career. Bar, Food Hall for hire. The Aquarius Golf Club was founded in 1912.

We celebrated our Centenary this on the 13th of September 1912. The 9 hole course was laid out on the roof and around Beechcroft Reservoir, which was completed in 1909. At the time it was Europe's largest under ground reservoir, still operational today and holding 55 million gallons of water. Competitions have been played at the Aquarius since 1913, with breaks for both World Wars. In 2007 the cl

ub was awarded the prestigious Golf Mark by the English Golf Union & English Women's Golf Association. which identifies the club as one which has junior and beginner golf friendly facilities. The club is probably unique in that way we are run by volunteers. In May 2010, we were accredited with Investors in Volunteers assessment, not just the first Golf Club in England, but the first sports club in England to awarded Investors in Volunteers.

Dear Members,

Due to the recent wet weather, the ground conditions of the course, particularly on the lower part, have become very wet and soft underfoot. These areas will quickly deteriorate, turning muddy and boggy from golfer traffic and particularly from trolleys.

To limit damage on the course and to try and maintain reasonably good playing conditions, especially around the greens, measures have already been put in place on several holes, to direct golfer and trolley traffic away from the wet areas. Over the coming weeks, more traffic measures will be put in place as conditions change. Please adhere to theses as directed and help protect the course.

If possible, could members please try and carry their clubs, and that trolleys are only used by those who would otherwise not be able to play without using one. If conditions deteriorate further and trolley use remains high, a blanket ban of trolleys may be imposed.

Winter tee mats will slowly be introduced on various tees as the weather and conditions deteriorate. Please remember to remove any broken tees and litter from the tee playing area.

Hole closures and the use of temporary greens may also be necessary to help protect the wettest areas of the course.

Please remember to repair your own or any other pitch marks on the greens. Repairing pitch marks is the responsibility of every golfer, and for the benefit of all other golfers and their enjoyment of the game.

Please remember to be cautious when walking the slopes and banks when wet and slippery
