Seems it wasn't that long ago that I picked up the keys for 41a Farringdon Street.
Today actually marks 10 years since that day.
Going from a few tables and about 20 chairs, to quite a bit more.
As ever, we thank everyone who has helped us get through these past 10 years via many ups and downs. Even if it was just by buying a glass.
Last year, I was out on the terrace when a couple of people walked by. One of them referred to us as a bit of an institution. Very few moments have made me so proud.
We will have a little party in August and keep you posted.

Tonight we will be pouring our selection from La Marca di San Michele, in memory of Dani who sadly passed away yesterday, taken far too soon.
One of the first wineries we ever imported into the UK, Ale and Dani have always been the kindest, most generous and humblest of people.
What she filled into her life and the way she lived connecting people and tirelessly helping so many, truly is an amazing legacy and it goes without saying she will be missed by many.
Our thoughts to the family and all in Cupramontana and beyond, that cherished their time with her.

A beautiful couple of days driving around Champagne, avoiding Tractor traffic jams, en route to the Loire.
Every time I come here, I leave with my eyes a little more open.

 It’s easy to forget through all the glamour that this is a farming region. From the large quantity of agriculture here to the illegal Ratafia that may be made in someone’s garage, this mentality is still very much a part of the people.
Certainly being able to charge a little more and have the demand for your product, helps to give the freedom to be creative but their are many regions in the world that also have this luxury but do not use it to give back from what they take. This may be something as simple as planting trees, so breaking up the mono culture of vineyards, or something a little more complex like working in permaculture, to creating a new farm, raising and using animals in a way that is balanced and respectful.

Some years ago, I commiserated with a producer, I admire a great deal, about a frost that had wiped out 90% of their vineyards. He only said: We are lucky, we are in Champagne. 

Perhaps why I like it here.

As tomorrow - Friday the 22nd of December, the old guard shall be manning the bar in Farringdon, we have embraced this season of giving and raided the cellar.
Each of the above and below wines will be available for £10 a 100ml glass from 5pm until sold out.

Running through a list of wines we will be showing this coming Monday, the 13th of November, at our Champagne tasting in Farringdon. We shall also be opening a few Coteaux , Ratafia and Sparkling wines from other places in Europe.

New Champagne arrivals from Georges Laval, Laurent Bénard and for the first time in our portfolio Antoine Chevalier.
All on our wholesale list, if you would like some more information.

This should be fun.
On Friday the 3rd of November, the Remedy, have kindly invited of to kick off their 10th anniversary celebrations.
There will be a couple of older vintages available, Chianti Classico 2016 which Andrea and Renato have kept in the cellar all this time and the iconic Il Guercio and Uno 2018 poured from double magnum, straight from the winery.
We will also have a few of the more recent releases as well.

With harvest seemingly happening in most places in Europe at once this year, it seemed a good time to head to the other hemisphere.
It has been over a decade since my last trip to Australia and not surprisingly things have moved on.
Though for me, not all for the better. Seemingly a split, between those who were part of the new wave, deciding that volume is the way forward, very much like their main stream counterparts whose shadows they were originally trying to escape from. The other half is realising focus, patience and slowly slowly is the way and for me, still, this is where the excitement and passion are.
Terroir has never been so much on people's lips and diversity of styles and varieties makes things pretty exciting.

The photo may seem odd but the last time I was in this car ,16 odd years ago, I pushed it up a hill in Chianti, this time down a road in Eden Valley. Though like most things, once it had been given a nudge, it drove like a dream.

NEW ARRIVALS.
Just in, new releases from Tom Shobbrook. We have been fortunate enough to receive a bit more wine this year, plus a couple of additional cuvees. Including the very very low production of the Ottantotto 88. An 88 year old vineyard that Tom is doing his best to prevent the owner from grubbing up. Irrespective of the cost of the fruit.
