Bar Italia The Bar Italia at 22 Frith Street, Soho, London, was started in the winter of 1949 by Lou and Caterina Polledri.

Bar has been here awhile, but beforehand there was already a lot of history at 22 Frith Street.

Did you know, that John Logie Baird first demonstrated the television to a small group of people in 1926 above the bar?

Well, this year marks 100 years. And we are unveiling a new plaque hundred years to the day that it happened on the 26th January.

Yesterday was Sade’s birthday and it reminded us of this music video moment!

If you look carefully, you’ll spot a young Anthony popping his head out the bar whilst his dad, Nino, collects a gun from the aforementioned, Smooth Operator.

Why is Bar Italia open nearly 24 hours a day? Well it’s an interesting story. It’s a family tradition to look after those who walk into the cafe, and whatever time of night it was, the door wouldn’t close until that last person left.

It’s a hub for a reason…
