Every edition of this fantastic pairing has sold out, with members asking for more seats every time. Well, we listened to your pleas and we negotiated TWO DAYS of Steak Frites & Whisky this month, so this is your chance!

Taste and explore your choice of five Society whiskies from this month's Outturn alongside Bleeding Heart's special dish: A quarter pound of grilled Scottish beef steak, a hearty portion of Pierre Koffman fries and a pot of Bearnaise sauce. Now that's the stuff!

Please arrive at 6.30pm to select your whiskies. Food will be served at 7pm. For any allergies, please email us at [email protected], prior to the event.

Do you have what it takes to become our first ever Caskmaster?

Blind taste eight drams, identify them from a lineup of nine, and battle it out at heats across our four UK Members' Rooms. The top five from each heat will progress to the Grand Final at The Vaults on 12 November 2026 – where the winner will scoop a lifetime SMWS membership and a Speyside tour with CopperCairn.

Heats take place at:

The Vaults, Leith, Wednesday, 12 August
Queen Street, Edinburgh, Wednesday, 19 August
Bath Street, Glasgow, Wednesday, 26 August
Greville Street, London, Wednesday, 2 September

Doors open at 6pm, with competition beginning at 6.30pm. Open to members and non-members. A Society supper is included (an English artisan cheese board will be offered at the Greville Street Venue)

The Society’s latest ‘Heresy’ bottling Batch 41: Incognito is a unique example of what can happen when the Whisky Team go from being cask custodians to carrying out their own custom distillation. This beautiful 9-year-old single grain Scotch whisky was matured in custom made #4 char new oak barrels with toasted heads. Expect notes of creamy cognac, chocolate, liquorice and flambéed bananas alongside strawberry tarts and glacé cherries.

Incognito is available online and in Members’ Rooms.

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society has won three medals at this year’s International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC)!

The gold winning bottle, Cask No. 112.145: Flex the glove, was a 20-year-old Highland malt that had been matured for 14 years in an ex-bourbon hogshead and which we transferred this to a second fill oloroso hogshead for the remainder of its maturation.

Silver medal winning Cask No. 53.522: Islay onigiri also underwent a period of additional maturation, spending 11 years in an ex-bourbon hogshead before we transferred it to a second fill bourbon barrel for a further year of maturation.

Bronze medallist Cask No. 6.89: Austrian coffee break had 13 years of maturation in an ex-bourbon hogshead before we transferred it into a first fill Spanish oak oloroso hogshead for a further six years of maturation.

One of the IWSC judges, Richard Paterson, said the awards highlighted the continued importance of wood management, noting that while “the cask is king,” the best examples were those where oak supported rather than overwhelmed the character of the distillate.
