DID YOU KNOW:
Pinot Noir is a thin-skinned black grape with often low tannin and pale colour. It is typically vinified as a single varietal and produces its best wines when grown in moderate or cool regions such as Burgundy & Champagne (France), Carneros & Russian River (California) and in most of New Zealand. Consumed whilst still young, it has lovely fresh aromas and flavours of red soft fruits 🍓🍒 The very best examples have a surprising ability to age, developing gamey, meaty and truffle aromas 🦚🦆🦌🍄

Welcome to our Virtual Wine O’ Clock! 🖥🍷🕰
——
COVID-19 won’t stop our Wine O’ Clock appointment, we will keep posting our wine picks from ’s Portfolio every Friday at 5PM.
Today is International Riesling Day and we want to celebrate with two of our outstanding producers: from Central Coast (USA) and Rudi Pichler from Wachau (Austria).
Firestone Riesling is light-bodied yet full of flavours showing wonderful lemon, green apple, and jasmine aromas; Rudi Pichler’s Federspiel has real texture and weight behind the purity of the fruit, lime and peach aromas are accompanied by a stony mineral core. Both delicious with Asian food, Caprese salad or Seafood risotto.

DID YOU KNOW:
Riesling is an aromatic white grape variety grown in Germany (Rheingau and Mosel), France (Alsace), New Zealand and South Australia (Clare Valley and Eden Valley). The variety grows best in a cool to moderate climate and typically shows aromas of lime, green apple and white flowers 🍋🍏🌼 which turn into stone fruit, yellow peach, apricot and red apple 🍑🍎 in warmer regions. Riesling is known to make excellent wines in a wide range of styles from dry to lusciously sweet. It also responds very well to bottle ageing, developing flavours of honey, truffle and petrol in the more older examples 🍯⛽️ as well as gaining complexity whilst retaining freshness.

DID YOU KNOW:
Food and wine should have similar flavor intensity to maintain a sense of balance when pairing together. Imagine a boxing match: a bout will only go ahead with fighters in the same weight division. The strength and nature of flavours should be considered in the same way.

With some tasty lamb chops dressed with mint sauce, try Rioja Reserva 2011 from ’s Portfolio. A complex and intense wine with spicy notes and ripe fruit, full of plums, raisins and chocolate. 🥊🍷

DID YOU KNOW:
Alcohol and acid in wine increase the burning effect of chilli heat in food. Wines that are relatively low in alcohol, fruity in character and contain some residual sugar, are generally more palatable with spicy food reducing the burning sensation.

We recommend ONE TO ONE, Estate Reserve Gewürztraminer 2018 from Casablanca Valley in Chile. This superb expression, from ’s Portfolio, manages to capture all the varietal’s exotic character while remaining fresh and elegant with a touch of sweetness. Try it with an Indian or Thai dish and you won’t be disappointed! 🔥🌮🌶
