Port Charlotte 2009 (11 year old) from CN1435 (61.2%) one of 248 bottles.

It is pricey, but its pretty special. A first fill ex-bourbon heavily peated that explodes out of the glass. Explosive peat, followed up by vanilla, creme-brulee, and this hint of farmyard breeze that isnt overpowering, if you add some water you get hay, fresh apple, toffee, very long brine and peated finish.

One to be enjoyed slowly, especially if you are an Islay fan and looking for something to stand out.

New Release from Limousin (46.1%)

Limousin oak is a type of wood used by French distillers in the maturation process of cognac, and this bottling is made of approx 40% aged in Limousin cask with some Bourbon, Oloroso and Berry wine matured whisky included.

If you were a fan of the Gront Te (which we very much were) this delicate dram is a delight

On the nose, elderflower, clear honey, citrus fruits. Distinct vanilla, dried fruit, prune and apricot.

On the palate, delicate, it seems simple but pay close attention and you get complexity, vanilla, almonds, fades into oak, white grape, apricot, ginger and pear

Caperdonich 18 - bottled at 48% by - a peated single malt from a closed distillery. This particular expression was matured for 18 years in American oak.

We managed to pick this up for under £90 from heathrow airport, which for this bottling is well worth it. This bottle is fire.

On the nose, chopped apricot and burnt orange peel, bonfire and roasted toffee.

On the palate, forest fire, fading into toffee, brown sugar and apricot jam on buttered toast.

If you are a peat fan, we think this is worth a plurge...

Fisherman's Retreat Edition 9 Bruichladdich - Yalumba Viognier Cask 10 year - 50% and 64.8% versions.

There are 512 bottles of the 50% and 100 bottles of 64.8% version.

Ooooo these are both absolute beasts. This is one where we think the 50% edges it, the slightly lower abv means the fruit, white grape, peach, floral notes come through gently before being backed up by a deep ember backed peat. Absolutely love it. The 64.8% is insane, its a spicy version of the above, we had to add a little water to taste it, but goodness its fun. We will be recommending the 50% version to my peat loving friends.

Thank you so much for the samples.

Glengoyne 14 year 48.4% - bourbon cask Old Particular from

This was an absolute treat, some of the younger bourbon Glengoyne's can come off a little spicy, but not this, it was well balanced sugary delight, lots of white chocolate, icing sugar, cinnamon, toffee and vanilla on the palate.

Delicious though not overly complex sweet treat!

Dramming the Dark with - we were lucky enough to be invited to this incredible sensory and cocktail experience on Burns night no less.

We got to try Whisky Cocktails in a capsule! They were hilarious, its like cracking a very gummy or soft lemon sherbert but inside is a cocktail!

With some excellent instruction from we made our own cocktails and we also got the chance to see and and do what whisky is all about Drink and enjoy with Friends!

Thanks to and for inviting us.

Nikka Days (40%) (circa £32-37)

We were kindly gifted this Nikka Days, We'd been skeptical because we'd tried it neat when it first came out and whilst it had good notes, pear drops, floral, mineral, it was very light and a touch watery.

However, cocktails, highballs - this is where it comes into its own. We had this with Ginger ale, candied ginger and dried lemon. It works perfectly, bringing out those citrus and pear notes in the whisky, lovely ginger flavours, incredible. Go for tonic if you want to bring out those floral notes.

Converted - this works so well as a highball. Still not a fan of it neat though - Would go for Nikka Coffey Malt or By the Barrel for a neat dram.

The Macallan Classic Cut (51%) 2021 Edition ( )

One of The Macallan's more affordable drams (at £95). We hadnt had a classic cut before so split this with a few of our friends and to be honest, it was very drinkable. It seems to be mostly ex-bourbon notes, vanilla, toffee, cinnamon and ginger with a hint of fruity sweetness from the sherry seasoning. It doesnt seem old or particularly thick but you can still get a sense of the underlying quality and 51% is gratefully received.

It used to be expensive but now everyone is catching them up in price so can't moan really. Also, there is something really satisfying about opening a Macallan - What is that? Marketing or taste?

Bowmore X Aston Martin 18 year - Travel Exclusive (43%)

Shots taken at Spanish Point, Bermuda - No filter.

Only had a small taste in the airport but sweet px, citrus, coffee and peat came to mind.

Last of the warmth before winter.

Will we be able to get the 21 year?
