The amazing family and friends of James Turpie have recently organsied a music event in his memory and raised an incredible £5,555 for Melanoma Focus. 🎵

We spoke to them about why this event was so important:

“Our much-loved husband and Dad, James Turpie was the organiser of a local music event Rockerbie. With the first event debuting in 2012, there were 9 Rockerbie events over the years. James always wanted to achieve a 10th. Sadly, he passed away in 2023 after a brave fight with melanoma skin cancer before he got to do this. This year, as a family we decided to make his ambition a reality, putting on a special Rockerbie no.10 in his memory. We wanted to make this a charity event to raise funds to support Melanoma Focus and the work they do as it is a cause very close to our hearts. We are delighted to have been able to raise £5,555 in his memory to support their important work. Marion, Kirsty, Lindsay & Craig 💛”

Melanoma Focus would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who made the tenth Rockerbie event possible in memory of James. We are so grateful for your incredible support. A special thank you to Lindsay, James’ daughter who also raised £3,950 during April, the family’s continued support means everything to us and will help us continue our vital work. 💙

The final total is in and we are pleased to announce that Rockerbie10 raised a total of £5,555 for Melanoma Focus to support their important work 💛💙 We really hope this money will go a long way in preventing other families from the heartache of losing their family members to melanoma skin cancer.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported this event and dug deep to help raise this incredible amount of money. This of course would not have been possible without the support and generosity of our local sponsors, performers and The Royal Bar - we are so grateful to you all 💛

This money adds to a further £3,970 that Lindsay & her friend raised for Melanoma Focus earlier in the year by walking the West Highland Way in memory of James. Bringing us to a total of £9,525 raised for the charity in James’s name. We’re sure he will be raising a toast up in that festival in the sky 🍻💛

There were some things left at the event on Sat including a set of keys that can be collected from the front office of the Town Hall and some clothing - see photos in comments ☺️
