This isn’t a post we ever wanted to write, but with a heavy heart we’ve made the decision to close the pub & café.
From the very beginning, we set out to create a place that offered good food and drink at fair prices, especially knowing how tough things are for so many people right now. We truly wanted this to be somewhere for everyone.
As many of you will know, we’ve tried to listen and adapt — changing our opening days, extending hours, adding evenings . Always hoping to find something that worked not just for us, but for the community too. Going from monday - Friday to Monday - Saturday. Then adding evenings onto the Friday and Saturdays. At the start of this year, we made the difficult decision to close on Mondays and Tuesdays, as we were often seeing little to no customers on those days, hoping that support might shift to the rest of the week.
We’ve put everything we had into making this work. We’ve tried events, clubs, special nights, meets, even a van festival and while some brought smiles and great memories, the reality is many ran at a loss or just didn’t see the support we needed.
Despite all of that, we have genuinely loved being part of this. Since myself (Denny) and Fran moved to Wales to join my parents, we’ve felt so welcomed, and that’s something we’ll always be grateful for. When we took this on, we knew so many people had been saying “open the pub,” and we really hoped we could give you that.
But after more than a year of trying, and taking no wages ourselves just to keep things going, we’ve reached a point where we simply can’t carry on. Sales have continued to fall, and with a mortgage to pay, it’s no longer something we can sustain.
The shop will remain open, as it always has been, completely separate from the pub & café.
We will also still be opening every other Friday for music nights, and we’re always happy to host private events on request.
Thank you, genuinely, to everyone who supported us, came through the doors, shared kind words, or backed us in any way. It has meant more than we can put into words.
We’re so sorry we couldn’t make it work
