Commune & Studio Picnic Birthday Bash! 🎉
20.06.26 🌞

For Commune’s 2nd birthday and Studio Picnic’s 1st birthday we are coming together to bring you an all day party of vinyl, live music, DJs & food! Featuring friends & some of our favourite people who've played in the space! 😍

We'll be starting the day playing some of our best vinyl records and if you want to bring your own down to share then get involved! 🌀

Then we have three of our favourite artists we have had playing over the last couple of years. Starting with rapper bringing their high energy Hip Hop/RnB, then with their Freak Beat sound (not technically played before but previous bands from the wild mind of Buddy Keenan, The Floormen and Mossley Hillbillies, they played our first ever night!) & who blew us away with their live electronic set at 'Emotion Wave' that blends soundscapes, noise & pop! ✨

Then for the second half of the night we have our trusty tenants from upstairs, ._.picnic in control! Residents and guest mixers, .ph & will be spinning a plethora of dub techno, 90’s house and a good clug of party chuggers to celebrate the studios 1st birthday together! 🔥

We also have our mates from across the road slinging unreal vegan food in the courtyard, expect burritos, tacos & elotes... 🌯🌮

So come down, celebrate & we’ll see you all there! 🥳❤️ Xoxo

A night of folk from across the spectrum. We've brought together our favourite folk artists who've played in the venue over the last couple of years for a night of amazing music. Expect everything from beautiful melodies, to moody close harmonies, and upbeat singalongs.

- Passionate vocals with rhythmic, fingerstyle acoustic guitar playing, connect over spirited and skilfully crafted songs to help to make Liz Owen a unique and accomplished artist.

- Folk style harmony singing from members of Dawn Ray'd and All In Vain. Songs of resistance, vulnerability and sadness. Anarchist.

- Playing in the space between Political Folk and Acoustic Punk, AlbatRoss is currently a solo (for now!) project about joy transition grief and protest as well as an excuse to play fun ukulele songs to wonderful people.

Part of Everywhere At Once powered by The National Lottery, the UK’s biggest music festival on your doorstep: 1000+ gigs, 400+ venues, 1 weekend. Come and celebrate live music with us x

🍻 Our wonderful house lager 🍻

We've had this on draught since day one, nearly two years ago now, because we think it's the best! The original pale lager, brewed since 1842, hailing from Plzen in the Czech Republic (where Pilsner gets its name).

It's got more body and flavour than a modern lager, but it's still got that crisp finish you want when you're out and about in some beautiful warm weather 🤤🔆

We have it on for £5.50 which is the same as our other boss draught beer ❤️ Which we think is a decent price especially for a music venue. Not many other places in Liverpool where you can get that quality of pint at a gig 🍺🎸

Open Thursday-Sunday from 3pm-12am (11pm Sundays). Check out our website for upcoming events 🗓️

See you all soon x

Five evenings of music created and performed by 2nd and 3rd year students from Liverpool Hope University's BA Music Production degree.

Liverpool Hope University’s BA Music Production programme presents its annual performance showcase at Commune.

Over the past year, our second and third year students have honed their skills with a range of music technologies and creative methodologies, each developing an individual signature sound. This process culminates in every student preparing and performing a live set before an audience.

This year’s showcase will be held at Commune, a much-loved pillar of the local music community that has already hosted many of our student events, including the highly successful series.

The event is free and open to the public, but registration is essential. We kindly ask visitors to respect both the venue and the performers; every set is being assessed and will count toward the students’ degree marks.

Performance times: 5-10pm, plus guests till late.

Thank you so much to everyone who came down to, performed at, and collaborated on Fresh Shoots Festival. We had a great time at some amazing gigs with friends both old and new. If you made it down we hope you had a boss time and we are eternally grateful. Big love to our community ❤️

At the same time there is a bigger picture that we would like to discuss. We have wanted to do a festival since we first opened and when funding became available from Music Venue Trust and Liverpool City Council we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to go for it. An in depth and ambitious application was put in for the full amount of £3000, where we detailed curating 6 days of gigs, involving as many artists as possible. The funding would mean artists were paid well and there would be some money left over for the venue to improve facilities and equipment for future artists.

We got our application in a week early but heard nothing by the deadline for responses. Then nearly a week after the deadline we were awarded half the amount we had hoped for. This left us with not enough time for organisation or promotion and the venue taking on a lot of risk for still trying to pay the artists and promoters a reasonable amount.

Although we put our utmost in and tried to make the best of it, all the gigs were under capacity and meant we lost money, even with unfortunately having to ask artists and promoters to reduce their fees after the event. We are very grateful for how understanding everyone involved has been.

Overall we had some amazing gigs that we wouldn't trade for anything but at the same time the venue has lost at least £1500, from funding that was supposed to help with the long term sustainability of venues in Liverpool. Not to mention the reduction in fees for the artists/promoters and the unnecessary stress on the Commune staff. We can hold our hands up and say we overcommitted when trying to make good on a bad situation and it didn’t work out.

Thank you again to everyone involved. We will always try our best to be transparent about what we do and learn from our mistakes. If you have any questions please get in contact.
