Mac Cadáin Tessa

We may not be trading but we can't let Tessa leave without a few words!

She may have been residing around Handyman Pub recently but like many her heart was here at Old Kellys Smithdown. There are many memories of Tessa, from her being a (very friendly and entertaining) melter as a true legend of Liverpool Hope GAA through to the one that during lockdown has kept a whole crew together and helped friendships grow.

She is very special to a lot of us on Smithdown, nights out will be less fun without her pouring sambuca down your throat and hangovers be tougher to get over without her home cooking

Your going to have an absolute ball Tessa, good luck, enjoy and look forward to your visits with loads of new tales to tell

Happy St Patrick's Day

Some memories been created here in times gone by on our favourite day of the year

Shame it wont be repeated again in Kelly's now we've moved on but good news is we have a very special outdoor event booked in to make St Patrick's Day 2022 extra extra special. Details coming soon!

Had a wee catch up today with Liverpool Echo What's On, the support you've all shown recently has been amazing, thanks to everyone it has meant a lot!

Every year I usually dress up as Santa or organise games/ quizzes and collections in Kellys Smithdown to fundraise for homeless people in Liverpool but sadly this isn't possible this year.

This year I have decided to support The Paper Cup Project and collect online. This year has been a difficult year for everyone but for homeless people it has been beyond harsh...but we can help.

**Follow up Statement to Previous Closing One**

In May 2019 as we approached the end of our lease we received a letter indicating a proposed rent increase of 100% for a new lease. After seeking legal advice we responded by letter and e-mail to the landlords and their legal team indicating our intentions to stay on but the rent demands were unrealistic and that a rent review should decide the value. Unknown to us but we should have replied with a form called section 26.

Even though we missed the S26, we feel that having a relationship with the landlords for near 20 years - through having the lease and previous to that, being employees – we felt they could have at least responded to the letters or e-mail.

The next 10 months after lease end any attempt to talk about a new one going forward was ignored or replied to by solicitor with instructions that the landlord though the rent demands fair.

Whilst we were attempting to communicate on a lease a deal had already been planned with team from Dock Leaf, though we were unaware of this and carried on in the hope we could come to an agreement.

After lockdown it became apparent no lease on fair rent was forthcoming, and we made sad decision to hand keys back.

We want to thank every customer, employee and performer for giving it the atmosphere we will so miss. So many great nights it is hard to remember them all. We hope stories will be told for years to come.

We are still looking for a new premise and look forward to trying to bring that Kelly’s spirit we nurtured with the customers back to life, be it in a different set of walls.
