Spotlight on Tom Maddison (double bass) who is appearing tonight at Commuter Jazz with the Frank Birkbeck Quartet:

Since graduating from Leeds College of Music's renowned jazz course in 2013, Tom has gone on to perform with a plethora of artists across the UK and internationally. From jazz and electro-swing bands at UK festivals such as Boomtown and Bestival, to big bands and orchestras at venues as prestigious as the Royal Albert Hall, Thomas brings a wealth of hard earned experience to the stage. He also has a passion for writing and arranging music, and examples of his work can be heard by many RAF ensembles, including the famous 'Squadronaires.'

Ben is also a member of Sam Quintana’s contemporary jazz ensemble Wandering Monster, award winning jazz-punks WorldService Project, Ben Haskins Quartet, Howlin’ Ric & The Rocketeers, Rob Heron & The Tea Pad Orchestra, and works extensively with Ghanaian singer and percussionist Kweku Sackey aka K.O.G.

As well as performing, Ben has made a committed effort to building and nurturing the Leeds jazz scene. In 2018 he and venue owner Jack Simpson curated and released To Be Here Now, a vinyl and digital compilation of Leeds jazz released on their label HPBC Records. The LP was featured by Gilles Peterson on his BBC 6 Music UK Jazz special along with an interview with Ben.
