UPDATE ON BRIDGE - PLEASE NOTE SPEED LIMIT

Kent County Council - Emergency Speed Limit Reduction - Sheppey Way & Kingsferry Bridge, Minster-on-Sea - 12th June 2026 (Swale)

Kent County Council gives notice that for the safety of the public and workforce during roadworks, a temporary mandatory speed limit of 30 MPH will be imposed on a section of Sheppey Way & Kingsferry Bridge, Minster-on-Sea.

The 30 MPH applies southbound on Sheppey Way, Minster-on-Sea at the approach to Kingsferry Bridge to the extent indicated by signage clearly displayed on site.

This takes effect on 12th June 2026 for up to 21 days. The restrictions will be lifted as soon as works are completed, and it is safe to do so.

The restrictions have been introduced for the safety of the public and workforce whilst carriageway maintenance is to be carried out by Kent County Council.

This Notice applies when the relevant signs and barriers are on site and is valid for a period of no more than 21 days.

BRIDGE UPADTE

A249 Sheppey Crossing: bridge repair work and overnight closures

Current restrictions

The following restrictions are in place on the Sheppey Crossing northbound carriageway:

• The nearside lane is closed.

• A 50mph speed limit applies.

• A 7.5 tonne weight limit applies. HGV drivers should use the Kingsferry Bridge instead.

Overnight closures this weekend

The Sheppey Crossing will be fully closed overnight so essential repairs can be completed:

• Saturday 6 June: 20:00 to 06:00

• Sunday 7 June: 20:00 to 06:00

The Kingsferry Bridge will be open as an alternative crossing during these closures.

During the daytime on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 June, the nearside lane will remain closed, with the 50mph speed limit and weight limit still in place.

Please plan your journey in advance and allow extra time.

What we're doing

• Repair work began on 1 June and is progressing to plan.

• We expect the work to be completed and the road to be reopened by 06:00 on Monday 8 June.

• National Highways traffic officers are patrolling the area. We are working closely with Kent Police and Kent County Council to keep traffic moving and minimise disruption
