To the Residents of Spennithorne
We are posting this open letter in response to the opinions expressed on Soclal media, and the planning comments regarding the Change of Use application for the Old Horn Inn. A number of these comments are from people whose names we do not recognise as Spennithorne residents or customers. These comments are in harsh contrast to impartial reviews on travel review platforms.
In June 2020 we placed the property on the market as a going concern. In addition to Market interest we had anticipated this may result in the level of comment we are now receiving. We also anticipated an approach from the Community in acquiring the Pub as has happened with many Pubs in North Yorkshire and across the UK as whole. To date the Community have not expressed an interest in acquiring the Pub.
We have made regular customers aware of the proposed course of action we have taken and the reasons behind our very reluctant decision to apply for change of use. It is hoped that if successful it will make the property more appealing to a wider audience and thereby preserving the property and history of the building important to the village. It is not our intention to personally carry out any development of the property.
However, of particular interest are the Social Media comments regarding the ‘business model’, observations on performance under new management, and confidence in the community regarding viability of the pub. We have always been and remain willing to consider a realistic offer from the Community. We are aware that the Chairman of the Village meeting has resigned, however if the Community wish to appoint a representative, we are of course willing to discuss this.
