We were deeply saddened to hear this week, the sudden passing of our friend and patron, Mike Wilkinson - Magic Mike.
Mike became a huge part of the fabric of The Black Lion. He supported the pub from the very beginning, Whether it was bringing Monday nights with the Ukes to the pub, sharing a drink at the bar, or chatting into the early hours, Mike was always great company. His and Chloe’s support, friendship and generosity over the years has meant a great deal to us.
The Black Lion won’t quite be the same without him. We’ll miss the conversations, the stories, the laughter, talent and that unique spark he brought.
Our thoughts are with Mike’s family and friends.

And here it is! 🍻

Now pouring on hand pull: Nethergate Suffolk Reserve.

Many of you will already know and love Suffolk County, one of our house beers, but this is its bigger, bolder sibling. Brewed by Nethergate in Sudbury, Suffolk, Suffolk Reserve takes everything that’s great about Suffolk County and turns it up a notch.

Expect rich malt flavours of caramel, biscuit and dried fruit, balanced by a smooth, warming finish that’s packed with character while remaining incredibly drinkable.

What makes it special? Suffolk County has been a staple on our bar for years, so bringing in Suffolk Reserve gives regulars the chance to try a stronger, more full-bodied take on a beer they already know and love. It’s a celebration of traditional East Anglian brewing and a fantastic showcase of one of Suffolk’s most respected breweries.

Due to the English summer putting in another award-worthy disappearing act, tonight’s live music is heading indoors ☔🍻

Thankfully, we’ve got the brilliant Tom Dibb taking to the (dry) stage from 8:30pm. Expect a beautifully laid-back mix of folk, blues and roots-inspired originals from a musician who’s spent years touring the UK and beyond in his trusty VW campervan, playing everywhere from street corners and pubs to festival stages around the world. A quick reminder: Linda’s Italian Kitchen won’t be joining us this evening. You’re very welcome to bring your own food, or we’ve just restocked our Snowdonia cheese boards and pork pies. Any hot food brought in is to be enjoyed in the beer garden please.

Linda will be back next Wednesday… and with any luck, so will the sunshine. 🌞
