In a week dominated by Science with us hosting we thought we'd share a bit of history with you all.
This is our pub pictured before its 1907 refurbishment turning it into what we know and love today.
Our pub dates back to 1801 and in c.1813 it was renamed to the Marquis of Wellington after Arthur Wellington (Latterly the Duke of Wellington) after he himself became Marquess in 1812 following successful military campaigns before later going on in being successful at the battle of Waterloo
Prior to its current name, the pub was called "The Bishops Blaize" after the patron saint of wool combers & other than a few houses it was among fields and orchards.
took over in 1893 and it was during the 1907 refurbishment that ghostly sightings were reported of Victorian detective 'Tanky' Smith were sighted.
