Built over 400 years ago, originally called The Leopard, The Thornhill still retains some of the original built features, including a stone entrance dating back to 1673 inscribed with W.C. Using fresh local produce, The Thornhill offers delicious pub food, served to a very high standard, our menu ranges from snacks, lunch options, traditional pub classics & a some great à la carte options. It has

been said that there are secret tunnels running from the pub down to Kirkstall Abbey built many years ago by the monks. There are some sealed off areas of the cellars that have not been opened for many years - adding some mystery to the building and helping to create its unique atmosphere!

🎶🎻OUR FIRST FOLK NIGHT!!🎻🎶

We had an absolute blast at our first folk evening at the Thornhill 🙌

I wanted to start a folk club quite simply because I love folk music having grown up with it all my life thanks to two wonderfully musical parents 🥰.

Having never hosted a folk night myself I was nervous to say the least but I tentatively contacted Duncan McFarlane for some advice and he’s been so supportive and gave me some brilliant advice and even offered to co-host my first event.

It was a fantastic success! There was such a lovely welcoming environment and all performers were outstanding. I was overwhelmed by the support and encouragement and a great night was had by all!

Thank you so much to everyone that came and made it such a fantastic evening!

The next night will be on 3rd July, please feel free to come along share your songs, stories or simply to just listen and join in!

🍻 Why we’re supporting the VATsTheProblem campaign

For over 350 years, The Thornhill has been more than just a pub.

We’ve been a place for first jobs, family celebrations, local groups, community events, fundraisers, friendships and memories. Many of our team have grown up here, worked their first shifts here and become part of the Thornhill family.

Like thousands of independent pubs, cafés and restaurants across the country, we’re proud to provide a place where people can come together. But hospitality is under more pressure than ever.

Many people don’t realise that hospitality businesses are charged 20% VAT on food and drink sales, whilst also facing huge increases in wages, energy costs, business rates and supplier prices.

For years we’ve worked hard to absorb rising costs wherever possible because we know everyone is feeling the pinch. But there comes a point where independent businesses simply can’t absorb any more.

That’s why we’re supporting the VATsTheProblem campaign, led by Tom Kerridge and hospitality businesses across the UK, calling for a reduction in VAT for our sector.

This isn’t about increasing profits. It’s about protecting jobs, supporting local communities, helping independent businesses survive and ensuring places like The Thornhill are still here for future generations.

If local pubs, cafés and restaurants matter to you, we’d really appreciate you taking a moment to learn more about the campaign and signing the petition.
