🌍 World Breastfeeding Week 👶🏼💕

Over the past five years, one of the greatest privileges has been welcoming families back to our postnatal reunions, usually when their babies are typically between 3 and 15 weeks old 👶🏼

Amongst the parents who come to our classes hoping to breastfeed, the overwhelming majority are still breastfeeding or exclusively feeding expressed breastmilk when we meet again. In most reunion groups, it’s all - or almost all - of those who set out hoping to breastfeed.

Does that mean their journeys have been easy?

Absolutely not.

Some have faced tongue tie issues, sore ni***es, sleepy babies, low milk supply concerns, mastitis, expressing, combination feeding, birth trauma, or a birth that didn’t go to plan. Some have had straightforward births, while others have experienced interventions or more medicalised births that can often make the early feeding journey more complex.

The difference isn’t that challenges don’t happen.

The difference is that parents have already begun to build their toolkit before their baby arrives.

Sadly, breastfeeding rates in the UK fall significantly in the first two weeks after birth. Yet this isn’t simply because parents don’t want to continue.

At precisely the time when women need practical help, reassurance and someone to remind them that they’re doing an incredible job, many find themselves spending long days alone as partners return to work 😞

It wasn’t always meant to be this way.

Humans have always raised babies in communities. Mothers learned from mothers. Feeding women supported other feeding women. Families gathered around new parents, allowing them to rest, recover and simply get to know their baby.

Lean into your family and friends. Find your local infant feeding team. Go to breastfeeding drop-in clinics. Meet other new parents. Share your stories, ask for help and support one another.

Prepare for feeding not just labour.

Because preparation isn’t about guaranteeing an easy journey.

It’s about giving yourself the very best chance of achieving the feeding goals that matter to you.

✨ New addition for Simply Birth ✨

I’m so pleased to be introducing a gentle and supportive new element to the comprehensive course - our Worry Circle 🧠 💛

This is a space where you can share any worries you may be carrying about pregnancy, labour, birth, or the parenting journey ahead.

You can share openly, or anonymously if you prefer whatever feels right for you.

Together, we’ll hold these thoughts without judgement… and then revisit them at the end of our last class. My hope is that by then, you’ll feel more supported, more informed, and more confident - with practical tools, resources, and a stronger sense of what’s available to you.

Because one of the most powerful things we discover?

You are not alone. So many others are feeling the same, or very similar, worries 💛

Simply sharing what’s on your mind can be the first step in acknowledging those feelings.

Being heard, supported, and surrounded by others on a similar journey can be incredibly empowering - helping to build confidence, self-belief, and trust in yourself.

This circle is about connection, reassurance, and reminding you that support is always there 💫

.. This Summer 🦁 ☀️ 👶🏼 ❤️ …

Are you preparing to become a Grandmother?

OR Auntie/Honorary Auntie?

Becoming a Grandparent/Aunt is such an exciting time, but you can also increasingly worry if the advice you are giving from your own lived experience could be outdated?

Sometimes the answer maybe yes, other times no.

Do you worry about ‘stepping on toes’ .. perhaps seeming to ‘interfere’ when you just want to give all the love and support you can 💗💗

The Grandma Class will help update you with current, evidence-based maternity practices and recommendations for the cares of the new baby - filling you with confidence in your role to support your lovely family through their transition into parenthood 👶🏼💗

💫 Share your own birth experiences.

💫 Reflect and discover on what has changed in maternity practice and the services offered over the years for labour, birth, early parenting including infant-feeding advice.

💫 Learn what NEW mummy, daddy (second mummy) and baby can expect in terms of care and support when in labour and after birth?

💫 Learn about how midwives are encouraging of a post birth BABY MOON 🌙 …
. how you can support, protect and honour this beautiful and highly beneficial ritual that’s practiced globally 🌍 💗

💫 Learn why kissing the baby 💋 is not recommended initially by anyone other than mummy and daddy (always a hotly debated discussion on our antenatal classes) .. but the primitive urge you have to do this is well understood.

Course length 2.5 hours inclusive of a 20 minute break with a complimentary warm drink and cake ☕️🍰

Course Cost £40 individually or £60 to reserve two spaces - feel free to invite your daughter, second grandma, auntie, friend or your daughter-in-law to join you!

📍 Venue 🍰☕️

Date Sunday 5th July 9-12

You await a very warm welcome 🤗
