Celebrated my last days in Leeds at Ox Club with a fantastic meal and a gorgeous bottle of wine. sommelier & staff were so attentive and lovely, really passionate, and they poured some great booze!

Cocktails & Camparis to start, then two beautiful whites, a natural Loire Muscadet sur Lie and a lovely dry Tokaji. But the real winner was this Pinot Noir from a Premier Cru vineyard called “La Maladiere” situated in Santenay, a commune in Burgundy’s Cote de Beaune.

❤️ Raspberry, red cherry, strawberry
💜 Black plum, ripe fruit
🤎 Wet leaves, earth, game

So good we saved some to finish al fresco on the terrace at Headrow House as the sun went down.

I have to say I was very tempted spotting on the menu! Now I’m on site I’m sure there’ll be plenty of time to drink Henners 🥂

Two gorgeous orange wines from Escape to Freight Island yesterday evening!

French skin contact Vermemtino had a lovely deep colour with really honeyed notes: apple, almond, floral.

The lighter wine (second picture) was a showstopper. From Blackbook Winery “The Mix Up” was a funky fruity juicy number. A blend of Bacchus and Ortega, this wine was so pretty and floral but with a rich citrus to it as well, like ripe oranges, and a full body with a touch of stone fruit too.

Grapes from Kent, skin contact, natural yeast, malolactic fermentation & time on the lees. Super fun low intervention wine making and such a clean wine too.

Would recommend, would buy again!

Fruity, beefy, earthy, complex. The perfect steak-night wine 🥩

I was amazed by how fruity the wine was considering it was harvested in 2010. There was tonnes of strawberry, plum, bramble, and even tart blueberry on the nose. Oak comes through subtly smokey like charcoal, but below it all an earthy, meaty, beefy note that has to be from age. All the forrest floor a gal could dream of.

have smashed it out of the park with a palate like silk, tannins polished by pronounced flavours of rancio (a.k.a. age) wood polish, cedar, dried fruits, wet leaves, and deep purple plum with a touch of cranberry.

One of my pupils brought this in after their exam and it’s been a pleasure to taste it and enjoy it as it’s developed. Beautifully dry, refreshingly acidic, and a long finish. Outstanding.

You’re looking at the new D2C Commercial Manager for Henners Vineyard in Herstmonceux!

Today is my first day ‘at the office’ over in Manchester at Maison Boutinot HQ. It’s a big project to get my teeth stuck into, and I can’t wait.

I’ll be responsible for Henners beautiful wines reaching people direct, through e-commerce, vineyard tours, events, an on-site shop and bar, as well as managing the social media and website.

I’ll still be keeping this account open, but there will definitely be a few changes whilst I get into the swing of this challenge. Very excited to get stuck in!

Would you drink wine in a can? This one changed hearts and minds on Thursday…

These lovely wines have helped us raise £355 and counting for SARSVL in combo with Louise’s smoooooth moves!

Our Embody Pilates ‘Wine-Down’ was just a gorgeous evening: candles, low lighting, soothing music, flowing movements, and delicious wine paired with a good few giggles.

The Grüner Veltliner by Canned Wine Co was a real show stopper, and it deserves its time in the spotlight!

We found notes of
Grass 🌱
Peach 🍑
Apple 🍎
Pear 🍐
Zesty pithy lemon 🍋
And a twist of white pepper ✨

There was something magically mineral about the wine - the smell rain on the pavement after a baking hot day - wet stone, or petrichor.

Give it a try - I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

🎨 New art alert! 🎨

I absolutely love this painting by Lucy Foo Art newly hung above our wine rack.

Lucy and I went to Italy in 2015 and took a thousand photos - and she helped me choose the perfect one for a commission she painted me.

Lucy was amazing every step of the process, and most of all I loved the way she added texture with sand and matched the colour palate of the painting to the hues of the area all the wine lives chez moi!

Me, my wines (and my lucky zoom clients who will also get to look at the painting) are very happy ❤️

🌓 Over half our tickets sold! 🌗

Join us and raise money for SARSVL and get to drink this can of fun - Louise & I tasted it yesterday in preparation for our Wine Down event and absolutely loved it - room temp, chilled, even over ice.

Despite coming in a can, the wine had so much rich smooth fruitiness to it. Garnacha grown on old vines can have so much depth and complexity: this wine was an absolute gem 💎

We found notes of
Strawberry 🍓
Black plum & cherry 🍒
Spice 🌶
Leather & meat 🥩
Flowers 🌸

Canned Wine Co who kindly donated 15 of these babies for our 15 lucky ticket holder’s describe it as “chocolate covered cherries and cassis” and that’s a properly excellent shout.

Swipe for a treat - even Embody Pilates puppy Luna can’t resist!

✈️ Do you use wine to ‘take you away’? Do you associate it with a holiday and does it ever taste as good once you come home? 🌎

Scotland last month: in my hand? Ramon Bilbao Rioja

🇪🇸 When I went to visit in Spain October 2019, we sipped wine by Ramon Bilbao at a beautiful tapas restaurant to celebrate being together. There were carnivals in the street, the sun shone (way more than I could handle) and we had no idea it would be the last time we’d take international travel so lightly.

🗺 Finding the same producer on a menu together in Scotland last month took me back - I think that’s one of the wonderful things about wine. We’re so lucky in the UK that we have access to wine from a huge variety of counties, areas, producers: even when we’re stuck inside a bottle or a glass can take you away in your mind.

Where will your wine take you this week?

🍷 Have you tried wines from the Douro Valley? Maybe Port, or their sensational dry reds?

⛰ Yesterday I visited the Douro Valley - and it was incredible! The slopes and valleys are so steep that terraces are cut into them to grow rows of vines along.

🚜 Beautiful wines, but tending the vines has to be done by hand - you can’t imagine getting a tractor up that

🌍 Our guide, Pedro, told us about the Douro being the largest uninterrupted vineyard area in the world, 150km by 50km. Not only is it one of the first AOCs in the world, it’s also a UNESCO world heritage site and an area of outstanding natural beauty.

🍇 Main red grapes are Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz (a.k.a Tempranillo), Tinta Barroca, and Tinta Cão.

😂 Honestly furious at my keyboard’s autocorrect for consistently not realising I’m typing the names of grapes and not making spelling mistakes on a string of random words. Every time!

Busiest bank holiday! 😅

Once Upon A Vine was HEAVING all weekend, and I’m enjoying a series of incredible private tastings that have been able to be IN PERSON! YES!

“Be Your Own Sommelier” this weekend saw Jase & Louise put through their paces in a wine-tasting-slash-challenge to elevate their somm skills - they passed with flying colours!

“Tour of Europe” is featured in these snaps by Ella Shepard Art - she created the most beautiful tickets for wine & cheese pairing notes that took her family on a Eurotrip from their dinner table - bellissima! Wines were from Symposium Wine Emporium & cheeses perfectly paired by Cheese Please 🧀🍷

Coming up is “Home & Away” where we taste wines from Sussex & Greece/Greek Islands for a family who live in Sussex & holiday in Corfu (see what I did there...) Jane Burnell I can’t wait to take you ‘abroad’ through an evening tasting together.

The sun is shining, we’ve all got today off, things are looking up! ✈️☀️🏖
