Morning Folks, FANCY A CHEAPER PINT? Wee serious one this morning. 3 pubs close every single day in the UK. Every time a pub closes, the country loses more than a bar.
We lose the place where neighbours become friends.
We lose the room where birthdays are toasted, wakes are survived, teams are cheered, stories are told, and community grows.
We lose local jobs, local supply chains, local character, local history and another light goes out on another high street.
PUBS ARE NOT LUXURIES! They are part of the social fabric of this country.
Yet across the UK, pubs are disappearing at a devastating rate with recent figures showing around three closing every single day, and warnings that the pressure is only getting worse. Some reports have put the threat even higher. However you count it, the direction is heartbreaking.
Behind every closure is a landlord or landlady who gave everything. Staff who lose their income. Regulars who lose their second home. A village, town, or city street that becomes a little quieter, a little colder, a little less connected.
We cannot keep saying we value community while allowing the places that hold communities together to vanish.
Support your local. Use it or lose it. It’s an old saying but its only partially true.
This cannot fall on customers alone. We need urgent action on VAT, energy costs, business tax, and the crushing pressures facing hospitality before even more pubs are forced to call last orders for good.
This isn't just about the World Famous Chapel Tavern. It's about every pub in the UK. We are the oldest pub in Kirkcaldy and arguably in the 400 plus years we've been around, this is one of the most dangerous times for our industry.
Raise your voice. Raise awareness. Stand up for YOUR Local And, while you still can, raise a glass in the pub down the road.
If you get a wee moment today, please follow the link to sign Tom Kerridge's petition on fair VAT for hospitality. A like, or share, while a little thing, might just go a long way to keeping your local a little bit safer.
