Nestled between land and sea, at the top of a tranquil tidal creek on the Salcombe estuary, the Millbrook Inn is a hidden haven for those who enjoy good food, great wine and a pint of local ale in front of the fire or by the brook.

From tomorrow, things will look a little different down the lane. The Millbrook is wintering.

After our busiest ever summer and a winter that saw so many of you head our way, we’re taking some time to ease into 2026 and to plot a special return to our roots.

We’ll still be open for drinks every day, with the fire lit, the wine list long and the welcome as warm as ever. But the kitchen takes a slower pace, with dining proper only on Sundays.

We’ll be taking a brief hiatus from food, returning on Sunday 25th January with the Sundays we’re known for. Roasts people cross counties for, live music, long afternoons that tend to roll into evening.

From then onwards, Sunday lunches will continue weekly, along with a cosy food offering available daily in the pub, changing each week: warming chilli, hearty stews, pies full of our Shorthorn beef.

Our special monthly events will continue, each promising a very good reason to gather and a one-off menu inspired by what we’re growing and rearing right now. And for those planning special celebrations - be it a birthday, a winter reunion, or simply a Friday night with all your favourite people in one place - the pub will be available for private dining. More to come on that soon…

In true Devon style, we’re moving with the seasons. Slowing things down, before returning to full flow in spring, taking it back to our roots as the little pub with a big reputation for food. And more worth the journey than ever.

Until then, we hope you’ll join us in the bar and for Sundays that are worth waiting the whole week for.

Steaks & Good Company
Friday 21st November, 7pm
£70pp

This time next week, we'll be preparing the pub for a very Millbrook take on the classic Friday steak night...and we're really looking forward to this one.

Shorthorn beef from our own Fowlescombe herd, cooked over flame until the fat turns golden and the edges caramelise just so. A rich, ever-so-slightly charred crust, giving way to butter soft meat within. Everything a good steak should be, cut to share.

Elly Wentworth opens and closes the evening with a starter and dessert that take things well beyond your average steak night. Good wine, familiar faces, and the hum of the weekend arriving.

There can be few better ways to spend a Friday. Limited tickets remain; book your seat on the website or get in touch at [email protected].

In celebration of British Pudding Day, we thought we’d show you one of ours… but this is all that’s left.

Around here, pudding isn’t an afterthought, it's the full stop every meal deserves. And whether it’s sticky, spiced, sharp or sweet, it rarely lasts long enough for photos.

So we’re celebrating the day properly, with clean plates, well-licked spoons and absolutely no regrets.

After some of the busiest weeks in Millbrook roast history, tomorrow sees a few tables available for the very meal that brings the masses.

The forecast is predicting one of those grey, drizzly days that sees little inclination to do anything much, beyond taking a slow drive down the lane to somewhere the plates are full and the band is setting up for your post-dinner entertainment. This week it's Mafia 4, playing acoustic rock from 3pm to 5pm.

That's what rainy Sundays were made for. Not to-do lists. And certainly not B&Q.

Salad gets a bad reputation this time of year. Too summery, too light, too green.

Ours, though, is built for colder days: beetroot pulled from the farm gardens, all earthy and sweet; warm goat's cheese that melts just enough to mingle; candied walnuts for a little crunch.

It's a salad that sits happily beside the fire, pairs as well with a pint as a glass of red, and makes a very strong case for salads being every bit as good in November as they are in June.

It's on the menu now; come and give us your verdict.

There are about 40,000 pubs in Britain and our little spot by the creek has just been named one of the very best.

The Good Food Guide and Timothy Taylor have come together to champion Britain's 100 best pubs, celebrating everything that makes the great British pub what it is: great food, good drink and a place worth the journey.

We’re very proud to have made the list, and we're grateful to both our team and to all of you who head up the creek or down the lane to eat, drink and keep this cosy Devon pub alive.

Pop by and raise a toast with us, won't you.

There's something about this time of year that makes hiding away in a good country pub with the promise of brilliant food even more appealing of a night. Fortunately, the tables are set for a November full of events at the Millbrook:

Friday's Catch
7th November, 7pm | £70pp
Take your seat for a four-course fish tasting menu by Elly Wentworth, bringing the very best seafood from the coast to the creek.

Guest Chef Pop-Up: Sarah & Sheila at the Millbrook
10th November, 7pm | £30pp
For one night only, two familiar faces take over the kitchen. Friends of the Millbrook Sarah and Sheila are teaming up to celebrate a passion for good food, locally-sourced ingredients and a love of the South Hams.

Steaks & Good Company
21st November, 7pm | £70pp
Cuts of our famed Fowlescombe Shorthorn beef, carved to share and flanked by seasonal sides, with Elly's starter and dessert either bookending the main event.

Come and spend a night (or three) with us this November. Book your ticket on our website or email [email protected] to save your seat.

We're calling time on lackluster lunches.

Our new Autumn Set Menu sees a choice of two mains and a delightful dessert, available from 12pm to 2pm Thursday to Saturday. One course for £15 or two for £22.

When the weather is too wet to do much more than hideaway, when coast path stomps need ample reward, and when the day quite simply deserves more than soup and a sandwich again. We'll be here, down the lane, with the fire lit and something hearty waiting.

Because some days call for a proper lunch in a proper Devon pub.

There's a lot more than you may think behind every plate of food at the Millbrook.

Take our Tomahawk steak. The meat isn't just local, it's ours. Taken from our Shorthorn herd at Fowlescombe Farm, it's raised slowly on diverse pasture as part of a regenerative system that gives more back to the land than it takes.

That's important to us, but it's important to you too, because beef raised like this means perfect marbling for steaks with deep, buttery sweetness and melting texture. We sear it over fire, then finish it gently until that caramel crust is just so.

We raise our food with the same respect we put into cooking, and the proof is on your plate. This one's for sharing, but it's easier said than done.

The Millbrook is officially part of the Trencherman’s Guide Edition 33. It's the go-to handbook for the South West’s most exceptional dining spots, and restaurants have to reach some seriously high standards to make the cut. We're proud as punch to be one of just 10 new Devon names featured this year (and in very good company too!)

A huge thank you to our team and our guests for making this little pub tucked away down a country lane worthy of a place among the South West's best.

Sunday dread? Not when tomorrow looks like Michelin-worthy roasts, live music from the modern acoustic marvel that is Matt Sellors, and hanging around with a pint long enough for the fire to be lit.

We have a handful of tables available. Book online or give us a call and spend the best day of the week with us.

Sunday dread indeed...
