Showworks presents Educating Rita 🖋🎭

Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 November

It’s never too late to start again… Rita is a feisty and forthright hairdresser with a thirst for knowledge and a determination to change her life.

When she enrols in the Open University, she forms an unlikely friendship with Frank, her disillusioned and dishevelled English tutor. Through their weekly tutorials, they challenge each other into a life-changing journey of self-discovery.

‘Educating Rita’ is a comedy of classrooms and the class system written by W***y Russell, the acclaimed Liverpudlian playwright behind ‘Blood Brothers’ and ‘Shirley Valentine’. The play has captivated audiences since its premiere in 1980 and was also adapted into an award-winning film starring Julie Walters and Michael Caine.

To celebrate the National Year of Reading and support the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival, Tidelines Book Festival and North Ayrshire Libraries warmly invite you to join them for fruit juice, tea/coffee, a selection of pastries and an exciting book talk with authors Dr Emma Hepburn and Dr Punam Krishan.

Leading clinical psychologist, Emma, is passionate about making mental health, wellbeing and neuroscience accessible for all. Her illustrations on social media helped everyone ‘stay calm’ during a global pandemic.

Emma’s latest ‘Anti-Burnout Book’ provides a definitive guide to overcoming burnout and finding your inner spark.

Dr Punam Krishan is a practising NHS GP, mother of two and bestselling children’s book author based in Glasgow.

As a resident GP on BBC’s Morning Live and BBC Radio Scotland, she is passionate about making family and mental health advice accessible to all. Punam co-hosts the award nominated ‘The Medic Mum’ podcast and is a celebrated health journalist, writing for publications including ‘The I’ and ‘Vogue’. She shot to fame during her ‘Strictly’ experience! This inspirational event will give powerful research-backed tools for recovery and include a £10 book voucher towards buying one of the author’s books on the day.
