📅 Saturday 22 August - 7.30pm

Former frontman of legendary Scottish band The Silencers, JJ Gilmour returns to the HAC for a very special evening of music and stories.

HAC Main Galleries Exhibition - 🎨🌷

Live Life in Colour: An Exhibition of work by Gillian Park
Friday 14 May – Saturday 27 June
Free Entry

This exhibition marks ten years since Gillian Park took the leap to become a full-time artist — self-taught and beginning at the tender age of forty. Live Life in Colour is both a celebration and a reflection: a wander back to where it all began, through into a joyful celebration of colour in a new collection of landscape paintings, and off into her other creative world of textile design, fabric, lampshades and furniture — where art meets everyday life.

At its heart are the landscapes, colours and wild places that have continually inspired Gillian’s work over the past decade.

Passionate about the power of creativity, Gillian has spent the past decade sharing that belief widely — writing her book Don’t Be a Starving Artist, teaching the joy of creativity through workshops, coaching artists to build thriving creative businesses, and even taking that message to the stage at Old Trafford.

Live Life in Colour is a joyful homage to the inspiration, places and people who have supported her along the way.

Please check our opening hours to ensure the full gallery experience.

Freckfest presents Xan Tyler

Saturday 11 July

www.ticketsource.com/harbour-arts-centre

Despite many collaborations over the years Xan Tyler’s first solo album Holding Up Half The Sky (Last Night From Glasgow) was released in 2024 and reached #4 in the Scottish Albums Chart. Inspired by stories of female empowerment and exploring themes of sisterhood, survival and aging (some real, some imagined but all personal) the reception it received was far reaching.

Award winning Gaelic singer, Maggie MacInnes, will be performing contemporary arrangements of songs from a previously unreleased private archive at our venue, the Harbour Arts Centre next week.

Accompanying Maggie will be some of Scotland’s finest musicians including Wendy Weatherby (cello), Calum Park (fiddle and guitar), Conal McDonagh (pipes and flute) and Dan Brown (keyboards) and Alex Palmer (percussion).

The performance will include material recorded by Maggie's mother, the great traditional singer from the island of Barra, Flora MacNeil MBE.

The archive of around 180 songs was recorded in the 1950s and 60s by an Australian folklorist, Dr James Kalokerinos, and includes many rare gems alongside some of the many traditional songs which Flora helped make popular today.

With assistance from Creative Scotland Scotland, Maggie has put together a show which pays tribute to Flora and to other tradition bearers who passed on the songs to her. She has also recently recorded the songs from the show on her new album, Uiseagan Bharraigh (Barra Skylarks), which is to be launched at this event.

The show was first performed at Glasgow's Celtic Connections festival in January of this year to a sell-out crowd and is to tour the highlands and islands in the summer.

Further information at www.maggiemacinnes.co.uk

Maggie shares: "I am delighted to be coming to the Harbour Arts Centre and I feel excited to perform at North Ayrshire's flagship arts and culture venue.

"My mum Flora knew hundreds of songs, learned as she grew up in Barra, and since she passed away in 2015, I have been continuing to learn from her...

"To quote Maggie, ...'I have chosen the songs in the show for their depth and beauty primarily but also to shine a light on some of those which are seldom, if ever, sung today and which might otherwise be lost.'

"So please consider coming along to this unique showcase and being part of an evening to remember."

Don't delay! Book today before tickets sell out!
