The British Museum may have the Bayeux Tapestry on display at the moment, but Ipswich has its own magnificent display, the Ipswich Charter Hangings and they're free to see!

They're on display here every Tuesday & Thursday between 10am and 4pm until the end of September and Wednesday between 12pm & 2pm all year round.

We're also open Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September for , 10am to 4pm.

Essentially Swing is returning to St. Peter’s by the Waterfront for a third year running. This year we are joined by guests, Musicology. You are in for a varied show, from swing and jazz, through pop and rock, and that special change of flavour from the singers of Musicology.

Fantastic evening at St Peter's by the Waterfront last night! 🌟

The Ipswich Arts Association (IAA) hosted a meeting for its members.

Our Chair, Mike Motteram, opened the evening by welcoming everyone and highlighting the incredible variety of what the IAA offers. From connecting local talent to championing the arts across the region.

🤩 The Ipswich Charter Hangings
It was wonderful to have the meeting at St Peter's by the Waterfront, which is the proud home of the Ipswich Charter Hangings. Ann gave a thorough update on these magnificent, intricate embroidered panels. Originally commissioned by the IAA to mark the town's 800th charter anniversary, they form a stunning visual journey of Ipswich's history from pre-Viking times to the 20th century. Be sure to check them out next time you visit the heritage centre!

🤩 Lunchtime Concerts & Lectures
We also heard presentations from Chandra Grover and Jayne Andrews, who gave us an inside look at the lineup of upcoming IAA lunchtime concerts and lectures. There is some wonderful talent heading our way, so keep your eyes peeled for events and for the 2027 brochure.

🏛️ Ipswich City of Culture Bid Update
We were delighted to receive an excellent, insightful update on Ipswich’s exciting bid for UK City of Culture. As the project team works toward the final application deadline this August, the momentum across our creative community is absolutely electric.
