💛🧡 WORLD SU***DE PREVENTION DAY — 10 SEPTEMBER 💛🧡

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been talking about su***de prevention because this subject is particularly close to our hearts at The Lounge.

On two separate occasions, our son Charlie found himself talking to men who were at the point of taking their own lives.

He stayed. He listened. He talked.
And he remained with them until help arrived.

Those experiences taught us something we will never forget:

A conversation can matter more than you may ever know.

We’ve talked about the statistics.
We’ve talked about men suffering in silence.
We’ve talked about asking the question.
And we’ve talked about simply listening without judgement.

Today we want to bring all of those messages together.

💚 The Lounge is a Safe Space.

You don’t have to be at breaking point.
You don’t have to know what to say.
And you don’t have to pretend you’re OK.

Come in. Have a cuppa. Sit for a while. Talk if you want to.

Because behind every statistic is a person.
A family.
A friend.
A life that matters.

One of the biggest myths around su***de is that asking someone:

“Are you thinking about su***de?”

might put the idea into their head.

It doesn’t.

Evidence shows that asking someone directly can actually help — it gives them permission to talk honestly about what they’re experiencing.

You don’t need to have the answers.
You don’t need to fix everything.

Sometimes the most important thing you can do is listen, without judgement, and take them seriously.

At The Lounge, we’re passionate about creating a Safe Space where people can talk, connect and simply know that somebody cares. 💛

This is a subject particularly close to our hearts at The Lounge.

On two separate occasions, our son Charlie found himself with men who were at the point of taking their own lives.

He stayed with them. He talked. He listened. And he remained with them until help arrived.

Those experiences have stayed with us and reminded us just how important human connection can be in someone’s darkest moment.

That’s one of the reasons The Lounge is proud to be a Safe Space within our community. 💛

A place where you can walk through the door, have a cuppa, sit quietly or talk — without judgement and without having to pretend you’re OK.

We are not a crisis service, but we can offer a listening ear, human connection and somewhere you don’t have to feel quite so alone.

Sometimes a conversation really can matter.
