For once it would be so refreshing for people to actually know the facts and the circumstances concerning the Punchbowl before putting their two pence worth in. If anyone knew what we have had to put up with as in the amount of things we have had to put right so that this pub wasn't a danger zone for customers, people thinking we were being ignorant because we were hardly seen down stairs but that was due us both having to take on second jobs to pay staff wages and to put food on the table for our children. Eating through every penny of our savings because of all the things that we come across while redecorating that were bloody dangerous for one then the rise of gas, electric etc plus the brewery increasing rent and prices of the kegs barrels etc. we understood that u can not please everyone and maybe we shouldn't of been so laid back and trying to please everyone cause were did that get us? Some customers were politely asked not to do something cause we were warned we would get a rather large fine and explaining it wasn't us being unfair or difficult only for them to never return, I shouldn't have to sit here and do a post trying to justify everything and what we did, why we did it. cause now i am sitting here going over and over what did we do that was so wrong and why didn't this work and why did we put so much time energy and money into something we were never actually going to win at. What makes it worse for us is reading and hearing this so called community saying they ought to pull together to save the village pub!!! Myself and Matt have always been so welcoming on any ideas things that customers thought we could do better or that we could try doing, we welcomed criticism cause how do we know what we are doing wrong if we are not told? A little too late now thou cause we have made our decision and we made it as a family. I just hope whoever thinks about taking this pub on makes sure they know what they are taking on as we have fixed probably 25% of what needs doing and that's what we know of and these things are not cheap things to fix. I would also politely ask people who don't know us or have not been in the pub for years or have not voiced any concerns to us, ideas etc to please think about what they are posting cause at the moment we feel as thou we have let our staff, kids and families down by not making this a success, words and opinions do hurt no matter how small or silly they maybe to you. No one will ever know the full extent of what we have done and been through cause its not for the whole world to know about just have a bit of understanding if anything please.

Tbh I don't know how i am feeling one minuet i'm hurt the next confused but most of all i feel broken, When i first came to this village i hadn't been in the area long, I had moved from Oxfordshire because i had met the love of my life and was starting the new chapter in my life. This village reminded me so much of where i had grew up a village called West Hendred. Like here a beautiful village with country side a little school good old village pub and a welcoming community, After being here a year we saw the pub was up for sale and Matt being Matt (he would give me the moon and stars if he could) saw how much i had fell in love with the place and got the ball rolling as they say. After a good few hurdles he made my wish come true and we took over and we couldn't of taken over at a worse time but we had a little faith and made the most of what we had. Through Covid we made the most of the pub being closed and gave the place a well deserved make over which only then did we discover it needed more than a make over. We sucked it up and done everything that needed to be done which was a huge blow to us emotionally and financially but we had promised each other we would do the best we could and try and bring back the pub that everyone told us it used to be like. We have had our ups and downs like every business does and we are still learning things especially the behind the scenes stuff which i am finally getting there with. We both know that we cant please everyone and we still have a lot more things we need to do but these things do take time. Like i said we know we cant please everyone and we will still make mistakes here and there but we are still here. If we have had anyone ask for help we have done our best to do so if we have had any complaints we have tried our best to solve them even when we were wrongfully blamed for noise levels we understood the frustrations and just asked for people to confirm it was from us and if there was ever an issue to just call us and we would work together because if we were unaware of any issues how could we resolve them, Myself and Matt are very approachable and when i have had a issue arise i have listened apologised and done my best to resolve it saying please let me know if there is anything further i could do cause we all have to live in the village and i would rather work together as a community. At the moment thou i feel like i was totally wrong about this village and i feel as thou we are not welcome anymore, for the past month or so there have been Chinese whispers floating around which i have been brought up to ignore these things and rise above it but when it is affecting my family because it is affecting my business i feel i have to say something. I am not going to go into every detail and every rumour that is being viciously spread because it is not worth my time. I have been letting these get to me for far too long because i am a person that takes things to heart and i have been letting these rumours get to me. Today we were asked if we were permanently closed because someone from the darts community had been informed that we had shut our doors, so understandably a member of our darts team had the decency to come to us direct and ask us if this was correct. It is NOT the case we are NOT shutting our doors we are open at the moment and the doors are OPEN. Monday to Thursday we have changed the opening times to open from 3pm due to the lack of trade. (Bank Holidays/Events the new opening time does not apply) I don't know who it is that are starting these these rumours and why they are but i would ask them to please think about the affect this is happening not only on our business but on mine and my families life. We have made some fantastic friends and have some loyal customers and thank god for these people and we cant thank you enough for fighting our corner and being there for us. Its a big shame that whoever is starting these are unaware of the damage they are doing and i ask that they please put themselves in mine, Matt or my children's position for a min. especially my youngest daughter who asked me this morning why was i getting so upset for? and to put a smile on my face cause she was giving me a huge cuddle only then to ask me if it was something she had done wrong to make me sad.
I would ask that if there is anything anyone wants to know then please ask us and i can assure you all that if there are any changes on the horizon i will post these on the Punchbowl page.
I do hope that this stops any further rumours from starting because there must be more interesting things people could be doing. I am sorry for the lengthily post and for going on but i had to make people aware that these rumours are hurting a family and that it isn't right to do so. To All our customers,
On Sunday 13th Feb we have a Christening in the main area of our pub which is a private function so will be shut off to the general public from 2:30pm. We have the sports bar area that will be open for you all and we have provided staff members that will be carrying out table service and will be available throughout the afternoon/evening. The front door will be shut so the entrance will be at the back of the building in the courtyard so we maintain the privacy for the Christening party. Myself and Matt are hoping in the very near future to have the function room up and running for future events. To all our customers,
We hope you all enjoyed your Christmas and looking forward to the New Year. Myself and Matt want to treat our staff especially after all their hard work over the Christmas period so we have decided on Monday 3rd Jan we will be closing the pub for the day/evening so we can give the staff a well deserved break and throw them a little party so they can relax and have some fun. We want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone on all the support you have shown us on our first year here at The Punchbowl and hope we have many many more years ahead of us to make some more good memories. Can't believe where this past year has gone and we are looking forward to see what this next year has install for us. Happy New Year to you all 🥂
