The Elephant And Castle Public House itself dates back to the 1860's and was originally converted from the village smithy previously on the site, from which it takes its unusual name and sign, "The Elephant And Castle". An Indian Elephant with a Howdah on its back was the emblem used by the Cutlers’ Company, a London craft guild founded in the 13th century which represented workers who made knives, scissors, surgical instruments and the like, many of which had elephant ivory handles. Today you can enjoy a quiet drink, play a game of darts or pool or use the wifi in the bar, and order an evening meal. On fine days you can take advantage of our Beer Garden and on chillier days get cosy by our real log fire! Even then you might get a chill...the bar is reputed by locals to have its very own friendly ghost! Our guest rooms are in purpose built blocks adjacent to the bar. There is convenient onsite parking and the rooms are spacious with en-suite facilities, satellite television, fridge, microwave, kettle and a selection of beverages provided.
