🍷 Wine Spotlight: Beyond The River Shiraz

Say hello to one of our favourites behind the bar - Beyond The River Shiraz. It’s full‑bodied, smooth, and basically the red‑wine equivalent of a big comfy armchair 🛋️

Straight from the vineyards near the Murray River in Australia, this beauty pours a deep ruby red with a cheeky flash of crimson around the edges… a little hint that it’s still got plenty of youthful swagger 🍇

On the nose, it’s classic Shiraz: blackberry, plum, blackcurrant, and a tiny whisper of peppery spice 🌶️ Nothing too fancy, nothing too fussy, just really good fruit doing its thing.

Take a sip and you’ll get those dark fruit flavours again, all wrapped up in silky tannins and a lovely warm finish that hangs around just long enough to make you think, “Yep… I’ll have another.” 🍷 There’s even a subtle touch of vanilla and spice if you’re paying attention.

ABV: 13.5%
Vibe: Smooth, fruity, and dangerously easy to drink 😌
Best paired with: Crisps. Nuts. Good company. Maybe a packet of Scampi Fries if you’re feeling wild 🦐

🍷 Friday Wine Day at The Swan!
Each week we’re shining a light on one of our lovely wines, and we’re kicking things off with a true classic…

🌟 Wine Spotlight: Hungarian Pinot Grigio (2019)

If you’re craving something fresh, modern, and full of flavour, this little gem from Hungary is a cracking choice.

It pours a greenish‑yellow that already hints at its lively character. On the nose you’ll find ripe apples, fresh fruit, and soft floral notes - clean, bright, and instantly inviting. ✨

Take a sip and it’s just as refreshing:
🍏 fresh fruit flavours
⚖️ well‑balanced acidity
✨ a tiny natural prickle of CO₂ for a subtle lift

Technically semidry, but honestly… it’s far more interesting than your average glug‑and‑go Pinot Grigio. The finish is long, spicy, and elegant — a proper grown‑up twist on a crowd favourite.

Let’s give Hungary a little credit while we’re here, they’re quietly turning out some seriously good wines these days. The Mátra region in particular is known for its volcanic soils and cooler climate, which is why their whites come out so aromatic, crisp, and full of character. If you’ve never tried Hungarian Pinot Grigio before, this is a brilliant place to start.

Tonight, Thursday 5th, our brilliant Swan ladies are back on the oche and ready to bring the heat!

They’ve been absolutely flying this season, with 8 wins out of 12, some cracking high scores, and a few checkouts that may have resulted in some low key victory dances, and a few high fives. ✋💃

Pop to The Swan, grab a drink, and give them the support they deserve. Let’s cheer our ladies on to another win.
