APRIL MENU 🧑‍🍳

Ok, so April menu looking good!
As always some favourites on there including French Onion soup, scallops, home made pastas, Old Spot pork chop, 🥧 Suet crusted pie, Profiteroles……

The ever popular Portuguese style clams make a return to the menu and the Grilled lamb loin chops are also proving to be a favourite!

🥩 Josper grilled native breed steaks are a real winner too, including bone in prime rib & chateaubriand sharing steaks and our tasty Onglet.

Currently ‘merguez, aioli, chips & rocket’.
The mid week special changes regularly but it’s always something tasty!

It’s the school holidays so let’s not forget the kids 🧒 👶 The most delicious sausages, mini roasts on Sundays and of course our popular brownie & Dawlicious ice cream 🍨 - plus much more!

For those venturing out and about for walks 🥾 🌳 and adventures - we are a great pit stop to grab a coffee, refreshment from the bar and maybe even a cheeky sausage roll from our little deli/ shop.
We are also dog friendly 🐶

We are recruiting!

We are looking for an confident, reliable, experienced waiter/ waitress to join our team.

The Fox & Hounds is a busy, family run pub/ restaurant with an excellent reputation.

Key responsibilities and attributes required......

Provide a high level of customer service

Work well in team, as well as individually.

Be able to work evenings & weekends.

Must have relevant experience. The job will involve bar, general front of house duties & supervisory duties.

Must be over 18 and be able to drive - we are in a rural location with no buses or trains!

Sorry - No live in accommodation available .

You will be paid hourly (rate depends on age and level of experience) + a share of service charge and tips.

If you have the skills, attributes and experience to suit this role then we look forward to hearing from you!

(You will be required to work a couple of hours on a training/ trail basis)

Job Type: Part-time

Friday Evening

Sunday Lunch

+ 1 other evening/ weekend shift.

Already well into March but here you go!

As always our menu changes all the time to make the best of seasonal produce and the best available from our suppliers.

Delicious home made pastas, starters packed full of flavour, warming braises, succulent steaks, delicious mains, tempting puds - all cooked perfectly by the team and served with a smile in our lovely pub & restaurant.

Super chuffed to be included in The MICHELIN Guide 2026.
We have been featured in MICHELIN Guide every year since we opened in 2004 and every year we are super proud of this achievement.

Special thanks to everyone in our small but fab team who make this possible every year.

Already a few weeks into 2026 but reflecting on 2025.

Stanley settling into pub dog life well and meeting lots of new friends, has done his first lap of honour around the dining room (unplanned) and has been with us a year and a half already!

We are always grateful for feedback and reviews from customers, and still after 21 years at The Fox we are chuffed to be included in the Michelin Guide, Hardens & The Good Food Guide amongst others.


One of the best things about our job is planning, and being part of people’s special occasions.
This year we have hosted special birthdays, wedding anniversaries, weddings, baby showers, engagement parties and many other special events.
Looking forward to many more to come 🥂

And finally - our own wedding anniversary. 24 years was a special one as we celebrated in London back where we worked when we got married back in 2001 with the brilliant team from
I’m not going to lie - running the Fox & Hounds with my husband for 21 years has had its moments! But so lucky to work together everyday doing what we love and so proud of what we have achieved together ❤️

Ok…..so I always get asked what I would choose from the menu.
I may be biased but I do find it so hard to recommend dishes as James and the team really do excel themselves on a regular basis!
Looking back at 2025 here are my top 4 picks…..

•Grilled squid, rocket, tomatoes, courgette & herb dressing.

I love this dish as it is so fresh and bursting with flavour.
Tomatoes from a locals allotment, courgette from our own little home grown veg garden & the best fresh fish. Thrown together with a lot of love in the kitchen and there you go - the perfect starter, light lunch, or sharing dish.

•Whole lemon sole meunière, chips & tartare sauce.

Sometimes a simple grilled fish is all that is needed.
Always my go to as can’t resist the tartare sauce

• Minute steak, chips & blue cheese butter.

So this is one of our most popular mid week special at just £15! I love that our customers can come and have a delicious meal for just £15 during the week. Not to mention this tender Turner & George steak.
So if you prefer a quieter night out than the bustling weekend and can’t resist a bargain then keep an eye out for our weekly changing mid week specials.

•Quince tart tatin & vanilla ice cream.

And finally - this could not be missed. Definitely our most popular dessert of the year.
Quince dropped in by locals or grown in our garden. Sticky caramel sauce and fabulous vanilla ice cream from Hertford based Dawlicous ice cream.

So there you go. Looking forward to another year of taste testing, trying new dishes, recommending dishes and enjoying the feedback from our customers 😊
