Running an independent café bar has never been easy, but lately it feels like the whole hospitality industry is being squeezed from every angle. Rising food costs, increasing energy bills, higher staffing costs and additional government charges all add up, making it harder than ever for small businesses to keep doing what they love.
We’re not sharing this to complain, and we’re certainly not asking for sympathy. We chose this life because we’re passionate about creating a place where people can come together, relax, catch up with friends, enjoy good food and drink, and feel part of the community.
But the reality is that every coffee, every breakfast, every lunch, every pint and every visit genuinely makes a difference to independent businesses like ours.
Local cafés, bars, pubs and shops are often the heart of a community. They’re where friendships are formed, conversations happen, celebrations take place and local jobs are created. Once they’re gone, they’re incredibly difficult to bring back.
There’s an old saying: Use it or lose it.
We don’t mean that dramatically, but it’s true. If we want independent businesses to still be here in years to come, they need support today. The big chains will always be there. Small, local, family-run businesses need their communities behind them.
So if you’ve been meaning to pop in for a coffee, meet a friend for lunch, enjoy a drink after work, or simply support local when you can, we’d genuinely love to see you.
We’re also always open to ideas and feedback. If there’s something you’d like us to try, something different you’d like to see, or if you think there’s an area where we could improve, please tell us. We’d much rather hear directly from you than never know there’s an issue.
