Its been a challenging season for greenkeepers all over the country, but at Minto we have been lucky to have Paul Cranston looking after the course, ably supported by assistant, JP, and our band of willing volunteers. Yesterday, Paul had his chance to challenge us in a fun Greenkeeper's Revenge, a traditional end of season competition revived by 2026 captain, Mike Wylie.

The 40+ members who participated had to negotiate a range of obstacles - including carelessly-placed trailers and hosepipe mazes - together with novel hole formats and truly fiendish pin positions. Despite the eccentric course set up, some surprisingly good scores were recorded, with Nikki Laidlaw emerging with a net 66 to win the new Greenkeeper's Revenge trophy, donated by Paul as a parting gift to the club.

After 30 years as head greenkeeper, Paul will leave the club early in 2027 to pursue his own business. In recognition of his outstanding dedication and loyal service, we were delighted to award Paul honorary membership of the Club and look forward to seeing him out on the course in the future as a player.

Over 100 players joined us on a stunning autumnal day for our final open event of the season. Some tough pins positions and a steady north-westerly wind provided a challenging test, nevertheless, there were some fine performances in both divisions.

Come and join us for an evening of lively entertainment – with music from our own talented members and a hearty stovie supper from our kitchen! There will be plenty of familiar tunes to exercise your vocal cords and well as original material to enjoy.

All proceeds from the evening will go to Club funds as we seek to maintain and improve the course and facilities of one of the Borders’ best golf clubs, and develop the Club’s contribution to our community through initiatives like our increasingly popular junior section.

Well done to all the competitors in blustery conditions yesterday, Ewan Lawrence 🏆 wins the new Minto Open Trophy donated by A.J.Learmonth with a respectable net 70. All our winners are detailed below, prizes will be sent out to winners home clubs and membership winners will be contacted to arrange the prize.

A massive thank you to both MKM Building Supplies and Window Supply Company for helping us with the donation of new doors after our break in last month.

It’s great to see local companies supporting us when most needed 💪🏻 this is the first step in getting everything back to normal and we are hugely grateful for the massive gesture from these companies. ❤️

When we heard what had happened at Minto Golf Club, we were only too happy to help.

Following a senseless burglary at Minto Golf Club in Hawick, our customer MKM Building Supplies Galashiels reached out to see if there was anything we could do to help.

Window Supply Company will be donating a new set of PAS 24 and Secured by Design accredited French doors, helping to improve the security of the clubhouse and provide some additional peace of mind for its members. We hope our contribution can play a small part in helping the club move forward.

We were pleased to welcome 114 players to the course to day to compete in our Seniors Pairs Open. In blustery conditions and Minto's challenging greens in great condition, there was some fine golf played.

Local stalwarts, Ian Storie and Russell Graham, recorded a strong finish with four 3s in their closing holes, to secure the top spot. A cluster of excellent scores made the battle for the prize placings a close one, with just three shots separating second from 11th.

The main prize placings, clubs and net scores were as follows:

1 Graham, Russell & Storie, Ian Minto 58 - £100 each
2 Shiel, Gordon& Roden, Grant Galashiels 62 - £70 each
3 Patterson, Barry & Foster, Clive Newcastleton 63 - £50 each
4 Philip, Graham & Gill, John Galashiels 64 - £40 each
5 Mccredie, Keith & Turnbull, Colin Woll 64 - £30 each
6 Wear, David &Swanston, Allan J Minto 64 - £25 to each

Vouchers for play at Minto GC were awarded to the top two visiting teams from Galashiels and Newcastelton, respectively.
