🎭Casting Workshop

📆Sunday 31st May 2026 2pm Halifax Playhouse

🚉THE RAILWAY CHILDREN

🪄Wednesday 16th - Sunday 20th December 2026

🎉Directors Chad Bunney & Andrew Naylor

Important information:

The workshop will be in 2 parts - first for the main characters and a second for the other parts.

"Mike Kenny's imaginative stage adaptation of E. Nesbit's much-loved children's classic. Famously filmed, this story of a prosperous Edwardian family - mother and three children - forced into near-penury in the rural north of England captures the anxieties and exhilarations of childhood with great tenderness and insight.

As Mike Kenny says of his remarkably faithful adaptation, 'You don't need a real train to perform this play… the most powerful prop is the imagination of the audience, the most effective tool the skill of the actors.' So this version of The Railway Children, which offers three plum roles for young performers, is eminently suitable for schools, youth theatres and drama groups - anywhere, in fact, where the cry of 'Daddy! My Daddy!' is likely to provoke a tear."

Today is your last chance to see our three witches and all their friends and foes at work.

We would like to mention our brilliant crew.

So much thanks to Alan Cunnington, Alistair Cheetham, Gerard Marescaux, Tony Habergam, Julie Anne Johnston, Norma Bateman, Janet Clegg and Cathy Page for Stage Managing, directing, sound, light, wardrobe and props and prompting. And all our Front of House and Bar volunteers. We cannot put our shows on without you.

Have a load of fun photos, provided by cast, crew and Red Shed 9. There may be some AI witchcraft on some images.

Don't miss this show. It is really good!!! And there is a bar afterwards!!!!

Tonight is the halfway point for Wyrd Sisters.

Meet our director.

Although he may pretend to be, he is nothing like the Patrician.

A dedicated individual, with a real and indepth knowledge of our lovely theatre.

Gerard Marescaux works tirelessly behind the scenes, as Stage Director, Chairman and has been in many play with HALIFAX THESPIANS most recently as an Italian butler and as one half of an ABBA drag act (yes really).

You may see him around and about this week, as he is also Lighting tech for the show.

See you in the auditorium, with the Maggots, Walnuts and daggers. You don't have to understand the plot, just enjoy the Wyrdos.

The playwright and the player.

Both an integral part of the Dysk theatre machinations.

Jeanette Kendal doffs a very interesting, and possibly quite flammable wig, as Hwell the playwright. Jeanette has played many roles, including a pastor in a Vegas chapel, and a Hollywood starlet.

Lewis Edwards joins us as TomJohn, who really doesn't want to be king, but quite enjoys playing them. Lewis is new to HALIFAX THESPIANS, but has been a long standing player with Hebden Bridge Little Theatre and Todmorden Hippodrome .

See them putting on a play, within a play. Figure that one out for yourselves.

At Halifax Playhouse for the rest of the week.

First night was a blast. Literally. Pyrotechnics and flash bangy things, lasers and lots of smoke.

Come and meet The Vitollers. A lovely, theatre owning couple, who get more than they bargain for from the Maiden, the Mother and the Crone. Intrigued? You will be...

Michael Crowley has been a regular at both our theatre and Hebden Bridge Little Theatre and Roz Ottery is making her debut on our stage, but has been a professional actor and really is a delight as Mrs. Vitoller and a demon with a very long name, amongst other characters.

Wyrd Sisters, brought to you all week by HALIFAX THESPIANS at Halifax Playhouse.

At £20 for two tickets, and £18 for two tickets for members, for an evening of entertainment, you would be silly not to come along.
