The Robert Burre is a beautiful pub located on Burrs Road, Great Clacton, which is just over 2 miles from the town center. It has a good-sized car park which means parking is never an issue. The pub is run and staffed mostly by their very large family and this gives the Burre an atmosphere that you just can't find in a chain pub/restaurant. The pub is steeped in history and is reported to be haunted, and according to the old landlord "the little girl, ghost" saved his life (if you're lucky the old landlord may tell you the story himself as he is still a regular and so is the previous Landlady. The Robert Burre was built in the late 1300s and as the age suggests makes it postcard perfect. The internal decoration is very old school with beautiful exposed oak beams with traditional low ceilings and open fireplaces making it home from home on a cold frosty winter's evening. When the sun's shining you can enjoy the beauty of this listed building while you enjoy a beer or glass of house wine in the very large, family-friendly beer garden. There are ample tables and things for the kids to do while you bask in the sunshine. There is also a small animal enclosure which houses Alpaca's, Goats, Ducks, Chickens Rabbits and cute little Guinea Pigs. You can either purchase animal feed for a small fee at the bar or during the weekends and Holidays your children can be booked in for a 20 minute ;nimal experience' where they are escored into the enclosures and are able to see all the animals upclose and personal. If you have dogs, please bring them along as the Burre is very dog friendly, not surprising as the landlord has themselves. If you love Karaoke, Quiz nights, live bands, poker nights, and charitable events you will be right at home, as we have a sprinkling of all these throughout the year, please check our page or website for details. The Burre has a games room with a pool table and dartboard so if your ideal afternoon features a game of Killer then come on down. We have also created a competition sports bar where we have another pool table and dart board and this has proven very popular with our own regulars and visiting local teams. In addition we also have regular free pool days, phone or check our website for more information. Lastly, we look forward to seeing you down at the Burre!!

🍂 AN EVENING OF MEDIUMSHIP WITH AMANDA-JANE WILSON 🍂

Friday 30th October | 7pm | Tickets £12

As the nights draw in and we approach Halloween — traditionally a time when the veil between this world and the spirit world is said to be at its thinnest — we’re delighted to welcome Amanda-Jane Wilson to The Robert Burre for a very special Evening of Mediumship.

Amanda-Jane’s connection with Spirit began in childhood, when she first became aware of and questioned the spirit world around her. For over 30 years, she has devoted herself to developing and serving Spirit through spiritual churches, centres and venues in Clacton-on-Sea and across the UK.

Based in Colchester, Essex, Amanda-Jane is a spiritual medium and mediumship circle and development teacher. Through her work, she offers guidance, comfort, clarity and hope, helping people feel supported as they explore their own spiritual path and seek peace, understanding and, where possible, closure.

You can find out more about Amanda-Jane and her work here:

And there could hardly be a more atmospheric setting. Within the centuries-old walls of The Robert Burre, we'll be gathering for an evening dedicated not simply to spooky tales, but to connection, comfort and Spirit.

A setting with more than a little history...
The Robert Burre has stood in Great Clacton for more than 600 years, with the historic building dating back to the late medieval period. With its old timbers, low ceilings and fireplaces, generations of people have passed through this remarkable building — and perhaps, according to some of the stories surrounding the pub, not all of them have entirely left...

Outside stands the Robert Burre’s historic yew tree, itself part of the character and history of this extraordinary old site.

And then there are our reputed ghostly inhabitants. 👻
Over the years, tales of unexplained happenings and apparitions have become part of the Robert Burre’s folklore. Perhaps the best known is the story of a ghostly little girl, said by a former landlord to have once saved his life. Other stories have spoken of figures glimpsed within the old building, including a Victorian woman and a nun.
Are they simply stories accumulated over six centuries? Memories given life by an atmospheric old building? Or might some of our former inhabitants still occasionally make their presence known?
We’ll let you decide.

And on 30th October, with Halloween almost upon us and the veil traditionally believed to be at its thinnest, it seems an especially fitting evening to welcome Amanda-Jane.

🍻 CHEERS FROM THE ROBERT BURRE! 🍻

🎶 Where everybody knows your name, and we're always glad you came! 🎶

There’s something rather special about a proper British pub. ❤️

It's not just about the b**r, the music or the four walls. It's about the people who walk through the door, the friendships made over a pint, the laughter across the bar and the familiar faces that make a pub feel like home.

At The Robert Burre, you don't have to be a regular to be treated like one.

Whether you're popping in for a quick pint, catching up with old friends, making new ones or simply escaping the madness of everyday life, there's always a welcome waiting for you.

We've got our characters, we've got our stories, and we've certainly got our moments! 😂

But that's what makes a proper local pub so special.

The Robert Burre, Great Clacton. 🍺
