A little scrumptious update from our kitchen… 🍽️✨

While our brilliant chefs are hard at work putting the finishing touches on our fantastic new kitchen offering (coming very soon!), we didn’t want to keep you waiting. So we’ve put together a scrumptious little transitional menu — a short, sweet, carefully chosen line‑up of dishes to keep you well‑fed and smiling in the meantime.

Think comforting favourites, fresh flavours, and plates that still feel unmistakably Pheasant, all crafted with the same love and care you know us for. It’s a small menu with a big heart — and it’s the perfect excuse to pop in, say hello, and enjoy something tasty while we build towards the next chapter.

Whether you’re joining us for a relaxed lunch, an early dinner, or just fancy a bite with a pint after work, this little menu is here to tide you over beautifully.

And with our new dinner hours running 5pm–8pm (Mon–Sat), it’s even easier to enjoy something delicious a little earlier in the evening.

As always, booking ahead is a good shout...

Day Seven — and don’t worry… I promise I won’t be counting every single day of my tenure 😅

But this first week felt important to mark properly — a little way of showing you how seriously I’m taking this role, and just how excited I am for the future of The Pheasant.

And what better way to round off Week One than with the best ritual of them all…

Sunday lunch and those blissfully slow Sunday afternoon pints. There’s something special about Sundays in a village pub — the clatter of roast pots, the gentle hum of families catching up, the quiet satisfaction of that first sip after a long week.

It’s the kind of day that reminds you why pubs matter. Why this pub matters. If you fancy joining us, we’ve still got a little room for a few walk‑ins — but you’ll need to be quick.

The Yorkshire puddings are starting to rise, the smell of roasting beef is wafting through the pub already but if a roast isn’t calling your name, the bar will be open, the atmosphere is always easy, and there’s always space for a quiet pint and a chat. Exactly how Sundays should be.

A quick reminder too: our revised opening hours come into effect from tomorrow, so keep an eye out before planning your next visit.

Thank you for making my first week unforgettable. Truly. This community is something else, and I can’t wait for everything we’re going to build together. We'll see you this afternoon — plates hot, pints cold, doors open.

Love, Alice ❤️

Day Six — and here’s a little plot twist for you…

So, it turns out that booking a few days of annual leave months ago — long before I knew I’d be stepping into the GM role at The Pheasant — has resulted in the world’s most questionable timing.

First week on the job and I’m already nipping off for a couple of days. Brilliant start, Alice 🤦🤣

But here’s the good news: you’re in very safe hands.

The wonderful Amy and Eleanor from our sister pub, The Woodman, will be holding the fort this weekend while I’m away — and honestly, you couldn’t ask for two more capable, kind, or all‑round brilliant humans to keep the momentum going.

They know Nutwood inside out, they care deeply about great hospitality and they're a pair of absolute superstars stars.I trust them completely to carry on everything we’ve started — the energy, the warmth, the fresh ideas, and that lovely buzz that’s been building day by day.

And truly… I’m so excited for what’s ahead.

There’s so much in the pipeline for The Pheasant, and the support you’ve shown in my first week has meant more than you know. This village, this pub, this community — it’s something special.Thank you for being part of it.

See you in a few days — refreshed, recharged, and ready for the next chapter. ❤️

Love, Alice

Productive days are my favourite kind of days! 🌿🍷

Today has been spent getting stuck into plans for our gardens, making sure they're looking their absolute best for the warmer months ahead. There's something very satisfying about seeing everything start to come together (even if my shoe collection has suffered slightly from the muck!).

I've also been putting the finishing touches to our brand new wine list, which I'm very excited to share with you all soon. After plenty of tasting, debating and "quality control" research, I think we've found some real gems for you to enjoy.

Lots happening behind the scenes, but it's all with one goal in mind – making your visits to The Pheasant even better.

Now, I think I've earned a glass of wine... purely for professional reasons and after work of course. 😉

Love, Alice ❤️

Day Five-

That Friday feeling has officially arrived… and I don’t know about you, but I’m very ready for it.

In my first week stepping into the GM role here at The Pheasant, Great Chishill, and I’m already reminded why this little village pub means so much to so many.

There’s just something special about a Friday — that collective exhale after a long week, the first clink of glasses, neighbours catching up, friends drifting in after work, and the whole place filling with that unmistakable weekend buzz. It’s exactly what a village pub is meant to be: a place to gather, unwind, laugh, and feel part of something.

And if you’re heading our way later, the kitchen is on fire (not literally, promise). The team have been cooking up some gorgeous fresh specials — proper seasonal dishes, big flavours, and all the comfort you want at the end of a busy week.

The kind of plates that make you think, “Yep… this is exactly what I needed.”Whether you’re popping in for a cheeky drink, settling in for dinner, or just fancy being around friendly faces, we’d absolutely love to see you.

Your support this week has meant the world — truly — and I can’t wait to welcome more of you through the door as we head into the weekend.

Here’s to good food, good company, and the pub at the heart of the village.

Happy Friday, Great Chishill. Let’s make it a good one. 🍻

Love Alice ❤️

Day Three/Four — and what a whirlwind it’s been!

Apologies for the radio silence yesterday… it was one of those gloriously busy pub days where the hours simply ran away.

First things first — a huge congratulations to last night’s quiz champions! Even with a couple of last‑minute cancellations (always a shame), it was a cracking quiz all the same. And as ever, a massive thank you to Mark & Gemma, whose hosting and quiz‑mastering skills remain nothing short of legendary.

Secondly — and very excitingly — if you haven’t spotted her yet, please join me in giving the warmest welcome home to our Bethany. After a well‑earned adventure away, Bee is back where she belongs. She’s been a much‑loved part of The Pheasant for years, and I’m over the moon to have her back as my second‑in‑command, my right‑hand girly, and my partner‑in‑crime as we bring this next chapter of The Pheasant to life. Big things ahead… watch this space ❤️

In the meantime, the kitchen’s serving up some fantastic specials, the beer’s tasting as good as ever, the wine’s flowing beautifully, and the weekend is peeking over the horizon. In other words… it’s officially time to start thinking pub 🍻

Day Two — and the kitchen is already cooking up a storm 🔥

Thank you again for the incredible support over the past 24 hours — it’s been genuinely heart‑warming.

Today, we’re turning our attention to something we know you care deeply about… the food.

Our chefs have been busy crafting a line‑up of fresh, seasonal specials, and they are seriously worth popping in for. Think vibrant summer flavours, beautiful produce, and those comforting Pheasant favourites elevated with a little extra flair.

Expect dishes that change often, ingredients at their best, and plates that celebrate everything we love about great British pub dining.

Whether you’re joining us for a relaxed lunch, an early dinner, or just fancy something a bit different mid‑week, our specials board is looking very tempting indeed.

And with our new dinner hours running 5pm–8pm (Mon–Sat) starting next week, it’s even easier to enjoy something delicious a little earlier in the evening.

As always, we recommend booking ahead — the sunshine and the specials seem to be working their magic.

Day One!

Firstly, thank you all for the incredibly kind messages and support. The Pheasant holds a very special place in the hearts of so many people, and I feel truly privileged to be entrusted with its next chapter. I look forward to building on its wonderful legacy and taking the pub and restaurant to even greater heights. Watch this space! ❤️

We'd also like to make everyone aware of a few operational changes coming into effect from next week:

• Dinner service (Monday–Saturday) will move from 6pm–9pm to 5pm–8pm, helping us better accommodate growing demand for earlier dining.
• On Mondays and Tuesdays, we will close between 3pm–5pm, aligning our opening hours with Wednesdays and Thursdays.
• We're extending our Sunday evening opening hours, with the pub now closing at 8pm, giving everyone a little more time for those all-important Sunday night drinks. 🍻

There's plenty more to look forward to as well. Coming very soon, we'll be launching a fantastic new wine list in partnership with Anthony Byrne Fine Wines, introducing a couple of exciting new additions to our draught range, and unveiling a delicious new summer menu. 🍽️

As always, we recommend booking ahead, particularly at weekends.

A changing of the guard here at The Pheasant ❤️

Today we raise a glass to Mike, who signs off after steering The Pheasant with warmth, humour and that unmistakable Mike charm. He’s been a huge part of our story here, and we know so many of you will join us in wishing him all the very best as he heads off on his next adventure. He’ll always be part of the Pheasant family.

And as one chapter closes, another begins.

We’re delighted to welcome Alice, stepping into the role of General Manager. Many of you will already know her friendly face — and if you don’t yet, you soon will. She brings bags of passion, a love for great hospitality, and a real commitment to keeping The Pheasant the warm, welcoming village pub you know and love.

Rest assured, you’re in very good hands. The pub is only going from strength to strength, and we can’t wait for you to see what’s ahead.

So here’s to Mike, to Alice, and to the wonderful community that makes this place what it is.

Pop in, say hello, raise a glass — and help us give them both the send‑off and welcome they deserve 🍻
