This is my new friend Petra. The wood pigeon couldn't fly and was next to a busy road in the village. Two boys were playing with it and I wasn't sure of their intentions. I said to them that I had a good idea and had a big garden where I could take it.

After a bit of a struggle I picked it up and carried it a quarter of a mile to my home. When I got home there were 2 cats in the garden, so took it to our balcony for refuge. I looked up what to feed it and give it some seeds, nuts, water and kiwi fruit.

It is now managing to fly a little bit and flew from the balcony when I was putting the washing out. It follows me down to a stream at the bottom of the garden, and we've become good buddies.

Every day it has been pecking at the window for its breakfast. One of the things I had on my bucket list was to feed a wild bird from hand. As well as feeding from my hand Petra now lets me stroke her.
