N FOREST v NEWCASTLE
Two teams who had great results last week and in Forest’s case it’s as you were and in Newcastle’s case it’s an overdue return to form. Forest have been great so far this season playing good football and scoring goals with Chris Wood so effective and throw in inflicting Liverpool’s only defeat so far they are in a good moment. Newcastle should be confident coming off two good wins over Chelsea and an excellent one over Arsenal. This has the makings of a top match and one not to be missed with goals in it I think a score draw does look likely.

A London derby that has a lot riding on it with the current injury problems the Gunners have this could be a good time for the Blues to show that they have the makings of a very good young team and a result in this match will give the team and its supporters a great boost. Arsenal need a win for their confidence and to prove that they are capable of maintaining their title challenge despite the setbacks so this derby could be a bit fiery with so much on it if Chelsea can make this a typical derby am taking them to continue Arsenal’s current run of bad results.

A major Yorkshire derby with promotion chasing United the favourites but it’s a derby and am taking Wednesday to get a surprise win and kickstart their season and grab bragging rights till the next meeting.

KILMARNOCK v CELTIC
Celtic are in a good place at the moment and will want three points to keep them ahead of surprise title contenders Aberdeen but it won’t be easy versus a Kilmarnock team who have already taken the scalp of the other Glasgow giants Rangers and will be keen to get a historic double by beating Celtic so another interesting game.

The Blues are at last showing that they are human I can’t remember the last time they have lost three games in a row but trust me that will change sooner rather than later Brighton will hope it’s the latter. Bournemouth showed Brighton that you have to go after City if you want to get a result! This will be a entertaining fixture and Brighton are a good team to watch and will give City problems but with possibly a couple of injured players back Man City should get the win in what promises to be a cracking game.

LIVERPOOL v ASTON VILLA
The Reds are in outstanding form and look at the moment that they are going to take some stopping at the top of the league one loss in all competitions this season speaks for itself at the back they look more solid than even under Klopp and upfront they look irresistible with a great midfield back up. Villa have had a mini slump with three defeats in a row but they are the type of team that can give all top teams a game when they are on form. I think this is just the game they need as underdogs and I can see them getting a result at Anfield as Liverpool have had sticky moments at Anfield against lesser teams than Villa who are more than capable.

OLYMPIAKOS FC v RANGERS
The Scottish giants are not having the best time of it at the moment and a bad result in Greece could put real pressure on the manager. Olympiakos at home are hard opponents so this in my opinion will be a difficult night for Rangers and I predict more problems for them in this match.

United and their incoming new manager will know they have major problems if they don’t get anything other than a convincing win against this Greek side who are currently not pulling up any trees either in their league or Europe. United’s players will want to impress so I expect a comfortable win for them.

The Blues shouldn’t have to much trouble from the team from Armenia who were only founded 7 years ago. Whatever team Chelsea put out should make short work of them and their progression in this competition.

Ordinarily Hearts would be big underdogs playing a team from Germany’s top league but it is against one of their smallest teams who are also not in great form so the Scottish side will be disappointed with anything other than a win which they should get.

CLUB BRUGGE v ASTON VILLA
The midlands giants have made a great start in this competition and have a 100% record up to now so should be going to Belgium with plenty of confidence despite the setback at the weekend against Spurs. Brugge are in good domestic form and can cause problems for teams particularly at home but Villa seem to be enjoying their European games and should have to much for their opponents and take them a step further to qualification without the extra games the play offs will bring.

INTER MILAN v ARSENAL
This will be a enormous test for Arsenals squad resources as they go to one of Europe’s form teams in Inter the Gunners have not had the best of times domestically recently but a good performance in this tie should go a long way to restore confidence. Inter Milan lie second in their league and are doing well in the Champions League so will be difficult opposition for Arsenal who have the same amount of points as them so plenty to play for in this one in which a draw will be a ok result for both teams.

CELTIC v RB LEIPZIG
The Glasgow giants look to be back on an even keel after an earlier wobble this season and the excellent draw at Atlanta in their last European outing proves that they are capable of adapting to the difficult European opposition and they will need that in this game against Leipzig who are having a great domestic season and are laying 2nd in the league just behind Bayern Munich. Leipzig’s first league defeat of the season at the weekend might of dented confidence slightly so am taking Celtic to build on their last European result and get a important win to try and help their progress in the competition.

This for me is game of the night the Portuguese league leaders will want to show their out going coach that he is leaving an excellent side by leaving and going to Man Utd. Man City have a few problems with the team at the moment with form and injury to key players and for the first time in recent memory they are showing signs of frailty the defeat at Bournemouth a case in point! Sporting will give City problems and if there’s a good time to play Man City it’s now. I am taking Sporting to sneak a surprise win over an out of sorts City.

This basement clash is so important to both teams and really even at this early stage in the season three points is a must for each team as a point won’t really change the landscape so expect a game where both teams will have a go at each other Pompey are in not bad away form which bodes well for them both teams are shipping goals so I expect goals and a rare Portsmouth win.

A Monday night West London derby between two teams who have more often than not looked good this season so with that in mind am expecting an open game. These two sides have really started well and each have forwards on form so with a bit of luck Sky might of stumbled on a game that the neutrals will love am looking at these two evenly matched sides and I can’t split them so am taking a score draw.

The last game of the first round and according to ITV there could be the possibility of a giant killing hence the keeping it back to the televised Monday night game Chesham have only lost one of their last six games and Lincoln have won their last two so the recent form for both is quite good so this one might need penalties to decide it.
