Cirencester NPT have had another positive result today following locating and arresting a prolific shoplifter who had been targeting retail premises in the town centre over the last few days.

With the help of shop workers in the town centre, the male was swiftly spotted and we were contacted to report his last known location. This vital information enabled us to track him down moments later.

As a result, a 29 year old male was promptly arrested and taken to custody whereby he was charged with multiple offences and will now appear in Court in October

This result is another success which owes a great deal of thanks to the Cirencester Safe scheme - this is a network set up in conjunction with the Police, Council and Retail partners to identify and deal with retail crime and offenders swiftly and is helping to reduce the problem faced by retailers bit by bit

Great work in Cirencester with the scheme ๐Ÿ‘

Cirencester Neighbourhood Policing Team have today arrested our latest suspect linked to a series of shoplifting offences which have been occurring in Cirencester recently.

The male in question was located in the town centre earlier this morning due to multiple thefts which have been reported to us this month. They have been interviewed and charged and are now appearing at Cheltenham Magistrates Court at the beginning of September.

As part of the charges which have been brought against the male, we have also applied to the Court for a Criminal Behaviour Order in which we will be seeking a formal ban from retail premises in the town to help prevent further offences being committed and to try and ensure retailers aren't falling victim to this type of offence repeatedly

This has been achieved due to close working between ourselves, local retail premises and the Cirencester Safe scheme. This scheme has been set up as part of a wider scheme called Gloucester City Safe which links retail premises directly to local Police, ensuring officers are aware of the incidents as they happen and can react quickly to whats being reported.

Great to see the Cirencester Safe scheme working well ๐Ÿ‘

Great to see the Cirencester Safe scheme working well ๐Ÿ‘

Another prolific shoplifter has had their weekend plans changed.

Following the hard work of the Cirencester Neighbourhood Team and local retailers working together, an individual has been charged with 12 shoplifting offences and remanded in custody. They are due to appear before the court on Monday morning.

Shoplifting isn't a victimless crime and we will continue working to identify, arrest and bring offenders before the courts.

A big thank you to everyone who reports offences and shares information with us - it really does make a difference.

9 years in a row โ€“ Gloucesterโ€™s retained its Purple Flag award!

It means your city has once again been recognised for offering both a vibrant and safe night-time entertainment experience.

This yearโ€™s panel of judges highlighted the positive impacts of city developments, such as the new central student campus and Eastgate Street gates, along with an ongoing commitment to public safety.

The Night Angels safe haven hub and the rollout of safeguarding training are just some of the ways everyone is working together to ensure youโ€™re supported on a night out.

Councillor Rebecca Trimnell, Cabinet Member for Community Engagement at Gloucester City Council, said: "It is great news that our city has been awarded for the ninth year the prestigious purple flag award. I truly believe Gloucester offers a night out that is entertaining, diverse, safe and enjoyable, which most importantly is successfully managed by the different venues across this city between 5pm and 5am. Obtaining this flag once again shows the steadfast commitment of all those that work in our evening and night-time economies".

Stroud town shops are being given forensic liquid to mark items in a bid to deter burglary and retail thefts
Stroud Neighbourhood Policing Team & Stroud Safe is giving SmartWater to businesses in Stroud Town as part of a campaign to prevent retail crime which the force said is "on the up"
SmartWater is a clear liquid which leaves a unique mark on an item that can only be seen under ultraviolet (UV) light.
"It has its own barcode attached to it," said Jacqui Weller, Inspector for stroud local policing. "So, when we recover that stolen property that property can be scanned with a UV light and traced back to that particular shop."

Local Officers will be out over the next few days in uniform and plain clothes in a bid to prevent and detect crime.

A new community defibrillator and bleed kit have now been fully installed and registered on the The Circuit for 24/7 public access, directly linked to the Ambulance Service.
Working in partnership with McDonaldโ€™s, Stroud Safe and local partners in Stroud, we were successful in securing bid funding for this vital life-saving equipment, helping to protect and support our community in an emergency.
