TOMORROW NIGHT!
Adam Ross (full band) + Xan Tyler!
🎟️: www.thegladcafe.co.uk
--
Adam is a Scottish indie-folk songwriter. He is a solo artist and has also led the cult indie band Randolph's Leap for over a decade. He is known for his unique brand of articulate lyricism which blends humour, poignancy, wordplay and offbeat stories. In recent years he has collaborated with C Duncan, Andrew Wasylyk and Jenny Sturgeon, releasing music via Fika Recordings, Pictish Trail’s Lost Map Records, Olive Grove and Fence Records.

Adam's third album ‘Bring On The Apathy’ was recorded onto tape using analogue techniques, capturing the warmth, intimacy and personality of Adam’s music. It showcases some of the most emotionally open, lyrically deft and characterful songwriting so far from “one of Scotland’s most talented singers and songwriters” (Klof).

“Sheer class” – BBC Radio Scotland

“Charm and character to spare” - The Scotsman

“Ross’s storytelling and songwriting is still second to none” – The Skinny

This Thursday night, cellist and composer Justyna Jablonska presents her new work, Unforeseen.

Unforeseen: Improvising Life and Music draws on memories, field recordings, and conversations with Polish, Ukrainian, and Roma migrants living in Scotland.

As we shared experiences of migration and life in Eastern Europe in the 1980s and 90s, unexpected commonalities emerged: buried memories, smells, sounds, maternal voices and lullabies. Swallows flying low before summer rain; concrete balconies; the smell of pavements after a storm; hazy summer skies. Birdsong and migration became intertwined with questions of belonging, identity, and home.

The work explores how we navigate uncertainty within larger social, political, and ecological systems, and how migrants build new forms of belonging.

Improvisation lies at the heart of both the music and this enquiry: responding to unforeseen circumstances, adapting to change, and finding a way between memory, instinct, and possibility through cello, electronics, field recordings, and Ableton Live. Accompnied by narrative and film by Anna Leszczynska.

JUST ANNOUNCED!
Mississippi Records presents: A People's History of Music (during times of Authoritarianism)

A visual and sonic presentation by Eric Isaacson (Mississippi Records)

Thursday 12th November at The Glad Cafe
🎟️: www.thegladcafe.co.uk

A slideshow / lecture / film presentation from Mississippi Records founder Eric Isaacson telling a story of global music scenes that struggled and endeavoured during periods of authoritarianism.

Eric Isaacson is the founder of Mississippi Records and many other small esoteric record labels such as Cairo, Pyramid and Velvet Ramp. Over the past twenty- three years he's released over 390 records and 165 mixtapes of DIY music from around the world. This catalog includes punk, African guitar griots, Greek criminal underground music, deep country blues, Gospel, Folk, Estonian classical music, Soul, Spiritual Jazz and much more. Eric conceptualized, designed the covers, edited, worked with artists and their ancestors, wrote the liner notes, assembled and mailed these records out.

Beyond releasing records and running a retail shop, Eric has traveled with presentations like this for the past twelve years. These performances all champion DIY culture and try to expose the exploitative nature of the mainstream music industry.
