Too Darn Hot

Too Darn Hot The hottest, happiest speakeasy in town. Blackfriars Basement, Glasgow.

House singer for the biggest burlesque club in the world; the feisty half of Codeine Velvet Club; and solo star with two albums and a self-produced EP to her name, Lou Hickey is now kicking up a retro storm with her new speakeasy-vibed monthly club night Too Darn Hot. With a devil’s-tunes-playlist that covers everything from Buddy Holly, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin to The Clash,

Blondie, Buzzcocks and The Kinks, she’s keen to emphasise that it’s “just for people who like good music and want to dance”, regardless of whether or not you’ve got a vintage wardrobe. Tracks from the likes of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, The Dirtbombs, The White Stripes and Royal Crown R***e will come courtesy of her DJ partner in gin-soaked joy, Tony Poprock. (Club Noir)
