A reminder that we are closed today.

Today, August 2nd, is Roma Holocaust Memorial Day.

Described as the Forgotten Holocaust, the murder of around 500,000 of Europe’s Roma and Sinti during WW2 is a lesser known part of history.

Post 1945, survivors struggled to get recognition and compensation for the persecution they experienced. Roma victims were not acknowledged in monuments commemorating the Nazis’ victims. It's estimated that one quarter of the European Roma were wiped out during the Holocaust.

Although there is now a greater awareness of this atrocity, the struggle for recognition continues. Marking this day and remembering those who lost their lives is an important part of the Govanhill International Festival Programme.

Hi All.
Sad to say, that’s us crashed out. Don’t worry though we will be flipping back with our second instalment of the Bando Cafe Bar.
For those that don’t know, the name Bando, was created in homage to the real custodians of the Bandstand, the rollers and spinners that spend most their lives here and who affectionately refer to as THE BANDO.
