Farnley Tyas Community Group

Farnley Tyas Community Group "The purpose of the Farnley Tyas Community Group Committee shall be to represent the community of Farnley Tyas. From the FTCG Constitution, revised 2011.

The purpose of the FTCG is to represent residents of Farnley Tyas, encourage participation; organise projects and events; provide platform for dialogue and mutual assistance; preserve the cultural, historical and natural heritage of the village community. The Committee shall also promote the interests and well being of the village community as a whole." The FTCG are responsible for this page
Up until recently, Farnley Estates owned 1500 acres of land around and within the village of Farnley Tyas. In 2005 Farnley Estates were reviewing business plans for all their interests and wanted to consult with local people before submitting their proposals for building and development to Kirklees Council. However residents felt that the findings were not entirely representative as it had not involved the whole community. Therefore with advice from the Yorkshire Rural Community Council, they started work on a Parish Plan and or a Village Design Statement, which surveyed all the residents in the village. With assistance from YRCC, the steering group formed by residents eventually produced a “Community Plan” in 2008. The Aim of the Community Plan is to
- Describe how people living in the Village would like to see it develop and change
- Influence the policies and decisions of external agencies:- for example - Kirklees Metropolitan Authority regarding the New Local Development Framework
- Help the Community to achieve its aim for a thriving Village

A note from a resident…. we came across a cast (upside down) sheep 🐑 in the field off Farnley Road last night with its lamb , we entered the field and gently righted it and when we left it was sat with its lamb but upon checking today it doesn’t seem to have moved , does anyone know who the farmer is to ask him to come check on it and the lamb . thank you 🙏
