Beach Polo returns to Elie next Saturday 🐎

19th September, on the sand. Six chukkas between St Andrews University, Glasgow University and Dundee & Perth Polo Clubs, and quite a spectacle seeing it played at full pace on the beach.

St Andrews took the honours last time, so they arrive with a title to defend…

Free to watch. Come down, find a spot, and settle in. The BBQ, Beach Bar and Ship’s Galley are open from 12 noon for food, drinks and ice cream, first chukka is at 2pm, and Cammy Cairns plays in the beer garden once the polo’s done (5pm - 8pm).

VIP TICKETS - sold out in the spring, so worth booking early. Access from 1.30pm with exclusive use of The Ship’s Cabin and terrace, afternoon tea, and de Burgh Wine Merchants Rosé Crémant de Loire poured throughout.

Last one of the season, this Sunday - 12:30pm 🏏

And it's a proper send-off - a triangular tournament on the sands with Banchory and Selkirk, both founded in 1851, both celebrating 175 years. That's 350 years of cricket between them, and they're spending the last afternoon of our season on Elie beach.

One's come 78 miles south, the other 88 miles north to play. Low tide, the last match of 2026 and a good way to end it. Bar's open, everyone welcome.

Wellies in the air on Elie beach 🥾

At half time of Saturday's match against Dollar CC, the cricket paused and the welly wanging began - courtesy of our friends , who brought the boots, the flag, and a very smart truck onto the sand.

Brilliant turnout across all three categories, and some genuinely impressive technique out there. A few people clearly came prepared. A few very much did not, and were all the better for it.

Congratulations to our winners, who each went home with a pair of Le Chameau Vierzons. Well thrown.

Saturday’s match is one thing. But on Sunday at 1pm, the Rugby Has Beens are back!

Six meetings so far: three to the Ship, two to them, and one gloriously chaotic draw. They won last time out, so there’s a bit to settle…

This Saturday on the sand · 1pm 🏏

Our old friends from Dollar are back, and The Dollar Shell is once again on the line.

Fourteen meetings so far, and the fixture has developed a habit of favouring whoever's playing at home. Lately that's suited us rather nicely - nine wins from the last ten, and a stretch of beach that's starting to look like a fortress. We're not saying the sand is on our side. We're just saying it lives here.

We're also delighted to have on board as sponsors this year. At half time, the beach is yours: they're running a welly wanging competition, free to enter, across three categories - Men's, Ladies, and Children 12 and under. A pair of Vierzon boots to the winner of each.

No cricketing ability required. Just turn up, pick up a welly, and give it your best.
Come down, bring a chair, and settle in for the afternoon.

A scorcher on the sand ☀️

Our boules tournament back on Sunday 2nd August couldn’t have asked for better weather - blue skies, barely a breath of wind, and the beach full all afternoon.

Thank you to everyone who came down and played. The turnout was brilliant, and there were some genuinely impressive skills out on the sand - a fair few people clearly weren’t playing their first game 👀

Congratulations to our winners, who thoroughly deserved it, and thank you to everyone who gave them a run for it. Beaten by better boules is no bad way to spend a Sunday.

And a big thank you again to Maison Saint Aix - AIX Rosé & AIX White for sponsoring the day. A glass of Aix rosé in the sunshine on Elie beach is a hard thing to beat 🥂

Same again next year, we reckon.
