Many thanks to everyone who visited our event on Saturday. Thanks also to the many volunteers, gardeners, scarecrow builders, filmmakers, cooks, flower arrangers, historians, (and a poet!) who put so much effort into making it a success.

The scarecrow prize went to "Elsie and Joan" by Carol and Gary King, Edingale House.

Just a week to go to Edingale's Open Gardens and Scarecrow Festival, also commemorating the VE day anniversary. In addition to lovely gardens and 1940s scarecrows, you'll find:

* Local poet, Bert Flitcroft reading from his work in the Old Vicarage garden.

* Lots of activities for children including a "Ration Book" with a free chocolate and soft drink, a fairy garden, bouncy castle and scavenger hunt.

* Two young Edingale film makers, Sam Allister and Nathan Wells are launching a documentary film on “A childhood memory of wartime in Edingale” based on the testimony of Edingale born Des Collingwood as recalled by his son Richard. See it at the Village Hall and the Church.

* Memories of Edingale's war dead in Holy Trinity Church. And WWII memorabilia in the Village Hall.

*1940s dancers, a pop up shop in 1940s style.

So much to do for all the family!

Two weeks today to Edingale’s Open Gardens and Scarecrow Festival. You’ll find delicious food and a licenced bar at the Village Hall, cream teas in the grounds of the Old Vicarage, plant sales, book sales and craft stalls. We also have a local poet in one of our gardens.

We’re commemorating the VE day 80th anniversary and so you’ll find WWII memorabilia at the Village Hall, a local history display at Holy Trinity Church and the Lindy Hop dancers in the gardens and our scarecrows have a 1940s’ theme.

Two young Edingale filmmakers are launching a new film on “Childhood memories of Edingale in WWII”. The event will be packed with fun and memories.

Three weeks today to Edingale's Open Gardens and Scarecrow Festival. Make sure the date is in your diary. Don't forget to enter your scarecrow at [email protected].

We said goodbye this week to Mr Chris Green, Edingale born, Harlaston resident. Chris was a stalwart of Edingale Produce Guild and a frequent show winner with both flowers and vegetables. And was part of the well known Green family of Edingale. A few family photos here and of the village he was born into and would often remember.

More village memories will be on the display in Holy Trinity Church and the Village Hall. We hope also to launch a film of childhood memories of wartime Edingale, based on the recollections of Des Collingwood, also pictured - and made by young Edingale filmmakers.
