We've had a message from a lady in Australia asking of anybody can help her remember this song....

Does anyone remember all the words to the Gardyloo song, popular in folk song circles in the sixties.
First verse -
If you're travellin' in the North, by Edinburgh toon,
This warning I will give to you.
For the folk o' Edinburgh hey a pastime o' their own,
Beware the terrible cry of 'gardyloo'
Chorus -
Gardyloo, Gardyloo, they'll throw it oot the windae on to you.
Oh, the rubbish will fall, and that's not all.
Gardyloo, Gardyloo.

If you recognise this at all please post any info on here and I'll make sure she sees it šŸ˜€

Leith Folk Club's monthly events at Heart of Newhaven continue with Rise Kagona and his Jit Jive Duo. Rise is the only surviving member of The Bhundu Boys, who brought the joyous 'jit' sounds of Zimbabwean Afropop to a global audience in the 1980s. John Peel described them as 'the most natural flowing music he had ever heard'. At the heart of the band's sound lay Rise's twinking guitarwork and earthy vocals. It is with great pleasure that we welcome him to Leith Folk Club at Heart of Newhaven on 25 April. Tickets are £12 (including a £2 venue fee), in cash at the door. Doors open 7.30pm for an 8pm start. This will be a popular night so if you would like to reserve a ticket, please contact us via the this page. Note that the venue is not licensed, but you are welcome to BYOB.

LEITH FOLK CLUB 2023 FUNDRAISER TUESDAY 28 FEBRUARY

A few members of the Leith Folk Club ā€˜auld guard’ have reformed the club and have arranged a Leith Folk Club 2023 Fundraiser in their new home in the Heart of Newhaven (the former Victoria Primary School building) on Tuesday 28 February.

A spokesperson for LFC said ā€œThe money raised will enable us to recover from the last three years and will be used to get us back to doing what we do best - presenting regular gigs featuring the best Scottish and international folk and world music in the heart of Newhaven, just down the road from our previous venue.

The full line-up for the night will be announced nearer the time, but to whet your appetite we have already confirmed our trusty local favourite, Fozzie Sayers; Boulder Fields (Cam Main, Amy Geddes and Suzy Cargill) whose traditional instruments and vocal harmonies blur the line between Scottish folk and Americana; and Crooked River Kings, an exciting new quartet whose members Tara Cunningham, Polly Edwards, Cameron Newell and Dominic Blaikie weave melodies from Scotland's North East and West Coast fiddle canon with infectious rhythms and well-crafted traditional songs.ā€ Plus guest spots from Tom Oakes, who has just launched his new album, and accordionist extraordinaire Sandy Brechin.

Doors: 1930 for 2000 start. Curfew 2230.

Price: entry by donation on the night, cash only. Suggested cash donation £10 please.

Facilities: The venue is accessible at ground level. It is unlicensed so please bring your own drinks and glasses (and take your empties home with you).

Venue: Heart of Newhaven, Newhaven Main Street, EH6 4HY
