Proof that rock history was made right here at the bar. 🤫🎸📸
A while back, we dropped a Reel about the night Kurt Cobain and Dave Grohl walked through our doors. So many of you loved the story that we had to dig this iconic photo out of the archives today.
For anyone who missed the video, here is the history lesson: On December 1, 1991 - at the absolute peak of Nevermind mania - Nirvana played a secret, impromptu acoustic gig right here inside our tiny Edinburgh pub.
Billed under the sneaky alias “Teen Spirit” to keep the streets from flooding, they teamed up with local legends The Joyriders for a Sick Kids Hospital charity fundraiser. Folklore has it that Kurt refused to play a single note until everyone in the room put a pound in the bucket. Because a rumour spread that they wouldn’t actually show up, most people left! Only about 30 lucky locals stayed behind to witness history.
Dave Grohl later admitted this intimate pub set felt more natural and real than playing Top of the Pops.
So, next time you’re leaning against the bar with a pint, take a look around. You’re standing exactly where grunge royalty made history. ✨
