SLÁINTE & SIPS @ THE FALSE WIDOW (Irish Lessons X Drams)

Here we go again! After our sold out night at the Mother Superior earlier in the Springtime, we are back with another Irish language learning-whisky event. Except this time we will be hosting it !

If you’re curious about learning cúpla focail, or seeing how it compares to your Scottish Gàidhlig then this would be the perfect event for you. (Or maybe you just fancy an excuse to enjoy some nice whisky and have a bitta craic, which is also perfectly valid…)

The tasting will be brought to you by Mother Jane, Caitríona (of Soops) and our lovely friend Niamh who is an Irish teacher and native speaker from Connemara, now based in Edinburgh.

There will be a cheeky discount for those who are brave enough to order their pint as Gaeilge at the bar afterwards. Tickets are £15 pp and can be booked directly through the False Widow or by following the QR code.

Did you know the building The Mother Superior is in got it's first ever license on the 3rd May 1882, this means the bar has been serving alcohol for 144years. The first licensee was A WOMAN (unheard of in these times, she most likely got it as she was a widow). Her name was Isabella Jobson.

Thanks to our wonderful regular Chris who shared this with me. What amazing legacy to continue to serve the fine people of Leith 😍

Also fun fact: I was going to be called Isabella but my da said "Isabella handy on a bike, so got called Jane the same name as the street the pub is on 😂😂

Supporting people with Autism and learning difficulties across our communities. They are a much needed service and raising essential funds to keep their services thriving.
Team Upmo are abseiling down the Port of Leith Distillery on May 9th so plenty of time to support their cause. We raise just over £600 last night 😍
