The Steam Town Shanty Crew began in May 2023 as weekly singing sessions. The group attending loved singing sea shanties so much they formed a performing group ‘The Steam Town Shanty Crew’. The Crew now run the weekly singing sessions at Steam Town and perform at community events, showcases and festivals.

The Crew are a vibrant, mixed-voice, a ca****la sea shanty group celebrating traditional maritime songs with fresh harmonies, community spirit, and welcoming inclusivity.

Recently the Crew performed at ‘Pirates in the Port’ - a sea shanty and folk festival held in Newport, South Wales. Shanty Crew chair Jon Watkins shared his experience with us…

“Can’t really capture how buzzing the performing crew are. Over the two days we performed almost 40 different shanties in our four sets. We had great audiences, some people coming back to see us even though they had never heard of us before the festival. The other crews were very generous, giving us really positive feedback. We aren’t getting ahead of ourselves but it felt like we’d become part of something bigger.

One of the best bits are the informal shouts where singing spontaneously happens in pubs, often with mixed crews.

We all had a brilliant weekend.”

At Steam Town, we’re so pleased to see how these singing sessions that started in our brewery, has evolved into a community of performers who call Steam Town home.

Follow the to keep up to date with upcoming performances and more.

🍻 **NEW BEER** Pouring now on cask!🍻

'Fashionably Late', is our new collab beer brewed with our friends over at Siren Craft Brew. We've talked a lot and it's been a long time coming - hence the name.
Fashionably Late is our take on a softer, session strengthened West Coast IPA, 4.5%, it's VERY drinkable, we hope it's worth the wait!

This cask collab is lighter in bitterness and bigger in body, plenty of wheat and oats backs up this dry and hop forward pale. It's made with a blend of US Mosaic / Amarillo / Krush / Strata hops for a BIG hop hit, dank pine, tropical fruit and EASY summer drinking, bring on the sun 🍻
