Oak At Kingshill

Well, this isn’t the easiest post to write — but after lots of thought, we’ve decided it’s time for us to close the doors of The Oak at Kingshill, with our last day being this Sunday 6th July 2025.

This decision hasn’t come lightly, but with some recent health challenges and a growing need to put family first, we’re taking this as our chance to slow down a bit and see where life takes us next.

We honestly can’t thank you all enough for the love, laughs, and support over the last 5 and a half years — through the chaos of COVID, the good times, the tough times, and everything in between. We’ve made some amazing memories (and even better friends) and we’ll be forever grateful for that. We’ll really miss seeing your lovely faces, but this is the right move for us personally and financially.

We’re still open for drinks tomorrow and Saturday evening 4-10pm and we’ll be doing our final Sunday Roast on Sunday 6th July, but we are fully booked for this as it was a pre booked function but please feel free to pop in for a drink our doors will be open 12-5pm.

Also, if anyone might be interested in running The Oak at Kingshill, we’re open to enquiries as we figure out the best next step for the venue. Feel free to reach out — we’re happy to chat.

Having made the difficult decision due to Jon’s ongoing illness and a long road to recovery, along with the continued pressures facing the hospitality industry we have chosen to close our kitchen for normal service indefinitely after lunch on Sunday 15th June 2025.

Becky, Rosie & Jons close friends have worked tirelessly to keep the kitchen open, but the current circumstances have made it impossible to continue in a sustainable way. This is not a decision we’ve taken lightly—it’s one we’ve made with great sadness, but also with care for the health and wellbeing of our team and family.

The bar will remain open on reduced hours, and we’ll still be honouring any party booking we have in place for the foreseeable future.

We’re so grateful for your support over the years—it’s meant the world to us. We hope to see many of you in the coming weeks and will keep you posted on any future updates.

Service Update

As many of you know, our chef Jon is currently in hospital and will need a bit more time to recover. We’re sending him all our best and hope for a speedy return.

In the meantime, we’re happy to let you know that we will be open this weekend, with slightly adjusted opening hours and a modified menu to suit the current situation. Please see the proposed menu and updated times for full details.

We truly appreciate your understanding and continued support during this unexpected period. It means a lot to us—and we’d love to see you this weekend if you can pop by!

Temporary Service Changes Update:

We wanted to update you all on our current situation. Unfortunately, Jon, our chef, is still in hospital recovering from pancreatitis and is expected to be there for a little while longer. While he’s on the mend, we’ll be open for food this Sunday, 25th May, from 12:00 PM to 3:30 PM, serving up a delicious roast along with a few main menu options. This will be run by Jon's former colleague and his family, so we’re in good hands!

Next week, we’ll have some changes to our opening hours and service times, but we plan to offer lighter pub meals. We’ll keep you posted with all the details soon.

Jon would like to thank everyone for their kind words and well-wishes. He’s determined to get back on his feet as soon as possible, but in the meantime, we ask for your patience. As a small, independent business, times like these can be tough, so if you’re able, please pop in for a drink or a bite to eat to help us get through this challenging time.

Important Notice: Temporary Changes to Our Service

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we will unfortunately not be serving food during our usual opening times for the time being. Our chef, Jon, is currently in hospital with pancreatitis and is expected to remain there for several days.

We will be contacting everyone with existing bookings for this week via email or phone.

We will still be open for drinks as normal just with an adjusted opening time of 6:30 PM just for tomorrow (Wednesday, 21st May 2025)
