For many years the villages of Limekilns and adjacent Charlestown were industrial ports providing limestone to other parts of Scotland. Today ‘Limekilns’ is a reminder to the industry which formed the villages. Limekilns was also home to many other industries such as shipbuilding, brewing and soap making and the main terminus for the ferry linking Bo’ness to the shores of Fife. This is echoed in R

obert Louis Stevenson’s novel ‘Kidnapped’ where David Balfour and Alan Breck were carried across the Forth after an alleged tipple at The Ship Inn. The Ship Inn today is a family run business which prides itself in providing a warm relaxed atmosphere where you can come and enjoy the views of the bridges and beyond, while sampling fresh and locally produced home-made food and fine Real Ales. Our menu provides you with a choice of starters, light bites and main courses all of which are prepared to order. We specialise in fresh fish and seafood and offer daily specials.

Thank You ❤️

What an incredible evening we had at The Ship Inn on Friday. The pub was absolutely jammed to the rafters, and it was so special to see so many familiar faces come together for one last night.

Thank you to everyone who came along, shared a drink, a memory, and helped us close this chapter in such a positive and memorable way. The atmosphere was truly something special and it meant a great deal to us all.

A huge thank you to Cole and all the musicians for providing the soundtrack to the evening — you were absolutely fabulous and helped make the night what it was.

We are incredibly grateful for the support, kindness and community that has surrounded The Ship Inn over the years.

Following our recent announcement, we would like to invite our local community to join us at The Ship Inn for a final evening on **Friday 6th March**

We will be open for drinks from **7pm to 11pm**, with live music from some of our talented local musicians who have supported us so wonderfully over the years!

Please note this will be a *cash bar*, and as we are now operating with reduced stock, the range of drinks available will be slightly more limited than normal.

We very much hope you can join us to mark the end of an important chapter and to share a drink with friends and neighbours.

Thank you again for your support over the years and for the lovely messages of support we have had since our original announcement.

** ANNOUNCEMENT **

It is with great sadness that we announce the closure of The Ship Inn, effective today.

As many of you know, the business has been on the market for the past 15 months and while we have received a number of enquiries and held detailed discussions with interested parties, this has not resulted in a sale. We remain in conversation with prospective buyers, but we can no longer continue operating the business in its current form.

Like many in hospitality, we have faced significant increases in energy, supplier and staffing costs, alongside reduced customer footfall. Despite substantial personal financial support to keep the business trading in the hope of securing a sale and protecting jobs, this is no longer sustainable.

Our staff have always been our priority! They have been kept fully informed, and we are incredibly grateful for their professionalism, resilience and loyalty during a very difficult time.

To our customers, friends and the wider community — thank you. Your support and kindness over the years has meant a great deal.

We will be announcing a farewell evening for our loyal customers in the upcoming weeks and hope you can join us for a drink or two and to share memories.
