Message to members and from Tam Ferry, former Chairman and Honorary President of EASTA;
It is with a heavy heart that I share I have decided to step down from my role as Honorary President of the East of Scotland Tartan Army.
Having founded the club 25 years ago and served as Chairman for half of that time, I have always tried to support the club and its members, even during the challenging times when I had to step down as Chairman for personal reasons. When I was later privileged to be gifted the title of Honorary President, it was a gesture I deeply appreciated and took to heart.
As we celebrate this significant 25th Anniversary, I was taken aback to discover that some club and committee members had invited my ex-wife—without consulting me first—despite the personal circumstances that led to my stepping down. I only learned of this via a spreadsheet, which felt quite disheartening.
I understand that everyone may have different views, but I do believe this decision lacked the level of consideration and respect one would hope for. To then be told that the situation would be "awkward" to address felt dismissive.
Ultimately, this experience has led me to conclude that the honorary title no longer reflects the respect it once did, so I have chosen to return it. I will always hold many wonderful memories and friendships from my time with the EASTA, and I sincerely wish you all an enjoyable and successful night.
