Join us for Eve of the Living Dead 🎃
31st of October 7-9pm
Hosted by our favorite storyteller Simon Lidwell

Influenced by indigenous customs from across the globe, this story telling experience brings narratives from ‘Day of the Dead’ ‘Dazaidy’ ‘All Souls Day’ ‘Samhain’ and from the African Diaspora.
Exploring the ways in which we grieve and celebrate our ‘gone, but not gone’ loved ones. Bringing in interlinking myths, as well as the ways in which indigenous customs have been since re-written to give rise to our more gory understanding of Halloween.
Interspersed with small bits of making by folding paper flowers and lighting candles.

(Trigger warning, mentions of colonisation and slave trade.)

This will take place in the b**r garden at The Tap. It is a sheltered space, but please be aware it could be rainy or frosty at this time of year. Dress accordingly.

Next week, Wednesday 21st of October 6-9pm 🎃
As part of our Wednesday evening activities, we’ll be bringing charcoal and paper for people to have a play with. This is an unstructured session, just grab yourself a drink and a sketchbook then settle down in our cosy bar for a draw. We’ll provide a few Autumnal objects on the tables to create an interesting still life arrangement for you. Or just have a doodle, draw your friends, or Barney our bar dog if you can get him to sit still for long enough.

What’s on tap @ The Tap this week:

We’ve had a few of the Podkovan | Czech L***r UK on recently, & they’ve been going down a treat.
This Tmave dark larger is an interesting one. The depth of colour can deceive some drinkers into thinking they’ve got a malty stout. But this Czech brewery have roasted their hops to create that smoky smooth flavour matched in a refreshing larger.
This brewery opened in 1434 by Czech monks who began their brewery in a pictures valley using the 300-meter underground spring. They are still using this clean spring water (known as children’s water in Czech) in all their brewing.

But can our Dumfries b**r drinkers tell? Thank you to this table of customers for their tasting notes:
“Bitter notes of coffee and blackcurrant, good frothy head. I know I like it. & there’s an unexpected hit of carbonisation at the end, a nice fizzy sparkle. Conjures up feelings of being outside.”

We’ve had a lot of sunshine but the mornings and nights have certainly got colder.
That’s our b**r garden closed for the season, but we’ll be popping our street side tables out for the time being. 🕯️

Oldies Turntable Takeover - Wednesday’s 6-9pm 🎶✨
Oct 14th / Nov 4th / Dec 14th
DJ Andrew + bring your own records. We’ld love to hear what you’re listening too (With a little consideration we are a public space).

It can get a little dull on Wednesday evenings. & we’ve all got bills to pay, but rather then close the bar we thought we’d give it our best shot at curating a range of events & activities to get you in drinking b**r 🍺
This is a set of low-fi, unstructured activities to compliment the busy Friday night evenings.
We’re thinking quiz nights, cheese tasting, story telling & collage and crafting. Watch this space, or better yet just schedule yourself to be in here every Wednesday from now on.

If you have any ideas, or if you’re interested in hosting a similar activity, we would love to hear.

S**t my boss buys part 1:

Andrew’s a big charity shop trawler, brining in all sorts of weird and wonderful objects to decorate the bar, as well as games and toys for people to play with.
A lot of these objects have interesting histories. & it’s especially lovely when customers come in and recognise some of the unusual things we exhibit.

We had a couple come in recently and ask about the origins of the walking duck. Andrew just picked it up in a charity shop. But the couple recognised it as the old toy maker, Donald, who used to live up the road from them. Who spent the last years of his life making toys he would give to the neighbourhood children. Our very own D&G Father Christmas. You can just about still see his signature on the handle.
Donald, it’s still bringing a lot of people joy here in our bar.

- we've got "CLOUDGAZER (4.7%)" from Iford C***r
- we've got "MAGIC GARDENS (5.7%)", "MANGO & SEA SALT GOSE (4.7%)", and "ESPRESSO STOUT (5.8%)" from Goodh Brew Co
- We've got "LONG FINNISH GIN" from Lonkero
- We've got "HEAVEN CENT IPA (4.8%)" from Harviestoun Brewery
- and we've got an "ALCOHOL FREE PILSNER (0.5%) " from Rothaus UK

The Long gin, Czech l***r and Espresso stout were a hit last night! 🥳 Come and have a look at the b**rs we have on tap @ the Tap! You can have a taste of anything that's on tap before you have a whole drink!

Plus, we've got a lot of interesting drinks in cans and bottles in the fridge. Very convenient for taking away b**rs 😉
